I used to love listening to the shoe's gripe about fresh water usage when washing the helo. They got over it when we starting bringing the Pony on an almost daily basis.

Ah yeah - the Sara Maru. The best gouge I ever received prior to my first REFTRA in 1978 was to buy a bucket to take to the head.

Got laughed at a lot carrying that little bucket.

Until...

The thing I remember most about showers on the Saratoga was that there were only two water temperatures - cold and scalding hot. Thus the evolved aviator always took a bucket with him to the shower to fill - that way if the water were scalding hot you had something to cool it in. And when - not if - the water pressure dropped to nothing, at least you'd have a reservoir to rinse off with.

And there is soooooo much more to be garnered by buying a few beer for the CHENG and coaxing him into telling the funniest events about water....

LIke snipes filling the bilge pockets and taking baths...but...then mine revolves about washing down the SH-60B of HSL-44 Det 4 as we approached the Suez Canal...and it was the pampered aviators most directly that time....
