The West Point guys are not going to like this…
Annapolis – the movie.
VMI guys aren’t going to dig it either. Citadel? Uh-uh.
USAFA? No fricken’ way.
I can’t wait. Even if it sucks, it’s going to be great…

And it comes out on my birthday! Haha…
Even if it sucks it’s cool that a movie was made about Annapolis. Anyway, I’m sure I’ll be seeing it, even though I already know the mids are making fun of it.
Argh… must finish chem before reading the past couple days worth of posts… especially Rythyms…
The sucky thing is that they didn’t even film it in Annapolis.
Ooh! Look! A great big bag of clich?

Man I hope the movie doesn’t suck as bad as the trailer did.
At least it might not be as bad as Crimson Tide.
Or “An Officer & Gentleman” filmed in Washington state
I’ll bet the plot is right off one of the thousands of JAG episodes…….” I’ll be the Final Countdown” is probably more credible!
B2
Sir, that movie looks really gay… possible contender for worst movie ever.
But I’ll see it anyway.

Took the words right out of my mouth, Chap!
Finally, the USNA gets its own version of “Lords of Discipline” the movie that trashed my beloved alma mater.
But at least, Pat Conroy (Fortress of Learning, Class of 68) could write!
Can’t….Watch,…..Errors……Distract
Will there be trig exams?
Gotta love the line, “50,000 young men and women applied to this academy and we chose 1207. Most of you won’t make it.” I guess that’s more exciting than saying 12,000 applied and 25% won’t make it. Top Gun meets Officer and a Gentleman. “You’re not good enough, I’m not quitting.”
I’ll see it anyway, but I’ll definitely suspend my disbelief and knowledge at the door. The question is will applications for the class of 2011 go up?
i love a good comedy!!
and it’s about Squids!! Even funnier!!!
I’m not an USNA grad, but it looks like there’s a lot of illegal hazing going on in this movie – for dramatic purposes of course!
Lex, maybe we can get a blogger preview and review it…. naw, they wouldn’t want that kind of review.
Yo- Maj Mike
Even this jar started as a squid!

What do all y’all think of the trailer for “JARHEAD”? On the surface, it could be a decent movie about MARINES in Operation Desert Storm with Jaime Foxx and Jake Gylenhall, but with the Hollywierd weenies these days, I have my doubts. Saw it just before the start of “Serenity”.
Yeah, but he found the light…
*chuckle*
(I can talk a wee bit of smack about USNA… Dad is USNA Class of ‘60. Grandfather was USNA Class of ‘23.)
I guess “NROTC” just didn’t do for the film makers. Too much beer and skittles, I suppose, and not enough pushups in the rain.
One of the main story lines of this movie, that a male plebe would have a romantic liason with an upper class female, is so totally off the mark as to be laughable. Upperclass are not allowed to date plebes. It is a seperation offense!
Consequently, the brigade is having a big laugh over the film. I also understnad (and this is only gossip) that when the Navy read the story line, they revoked permission to film it on the yard. You will see that a few scenes are from the yard. The producers then moved to Philadelphia to finish filming after Navy objected to the story line.
As far as the PRT, “You are four seconds off”… I think Lex could tell us if this is accurate or not. I tend to think it is as my son, a 1C Midshipman, was just grousing to me about his plebe’s state of physical fitness. Can you say PT @ 0500?
Hmmm… Obviously NOT filmed at Annapolis, which has a pretty open policy towards allowing filming on the Yard — provided that it doesn’t interfere with the daily schedule.
They filmed a couple of movies while I was there, including Patriot Games with Harrison Ford. Some of my classmates were extras in that film. It’s telling that the Academy probably didn’t want to cooperate with this project.
I can see multiple errors of fact just in the trailer. “Most won’t make it” is particularly glaring: My class admitted 1300, and graduated about 900 — and we had a big cheating scandal that accounted for a good percentage of that attrition.
The trailer makes it look like four years of intense Plebe Summer-style training, when in actuality that part only lasts for about nine weeks. The biggest challenges at Annapolis aren’t physical — they are moral, mental, and psychological.
And yes, upperclassmen do sometimes date plebes, but it is considered a major abuse of power, and is punishible by expulsion.
If this sounds too harsh to you, all I can say is don’t apply to Annaapolis.
or, “Annapolis.”
re: “And yes, upperclassmen do sometimes date plebes, but it is considered a major abuse of power, and is punishible by expulsion.”
(only if you get caught)
Did I say that out loud? No? Whew.
Just kidding. I thought he said day pleads. You know, “Please let it be day!”
That sort of thing.
B2 pointed us to Gen. Hagee’s bio, which led with: “General Hagee graduated with distinction from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1968..”
Jeebus. I’m flipping *OLD*. I was a second hitch NCO in 1968.
PG 13…guess that means Jordana Brewster keeps her clothes on. Automatic thumbs down!!
Plebe training lasts only 9 weeks?!? Back in the “Old Corps” Plebe year was a hard year, not just a hard summer………
Place must be going soft……
Used to be that plebe year was, well – a year long. Plebe summer was definitely the worst of it, but it wasn’t beer and skittles when the brigade came home, either.
