Catching Up

A couple of quickies on a Monday morning (down, you!):

First, a couple of new additions to the blogroll: The Officer’s Club – grown up talk about military stuff, should be fun, and milblogging.com, a one-stop shop for all things milbloggery (he said with his chin thrust out, perfectly aware that there’s no such word).

Next, it is with deep sadness that I note that the fricken’ Army has passed us up again, unable as they are to recognize when they have been beaten, and unwilling to gracefully concede the battlefield. You simply can’t take your eyes of those guys, not even for a moment. We rested for a moment on our laurels, and look what happens. They even did it our way: Deep pockets. Deep pockets on top of a very impressive grass roots campaign.

Quantity, it is said, has a quality all its own. Quality we’ve got in spades. It’s in quantity that we’re getting beat. In other words, I need more of you to do less.

You had your chance, Navy. “Five bucks,” I said, and did they listen?

They did not. Mostly.

Oh, there were any number of $20 donations, quite a few in the hundreds and a dauntingly impressive number in the thousands. But only one, last I counted, at five. And now there’s only five more days, the Army has passed us up, and the Marines, God love ‘em and keep ‘em safe are nipping at our heels. Times up.

Put plainly: Ten bucks, Navy. For the love and honor of the service, ten bucks.

Ten bucks or you know what happens next.

It is for a good cause:

Be a good wingman – don’t let me down.

Ten bucks.

somebody say… quickies on a Monday morning?

*sits up straight…blinks innocent brown eyes…flicks tail*

  • lex

See, that’s what I was afraid of.

Got to choose your words very carefully around this ville ;-)

You left the bait dangling… how could I not refuse?

  • FbL

    How could I not refuse?

    *quizzical expression*

It’s been a long day already, so I’m a little confused… Does that mean you didn’t not take the bait?

    Ouch! Head hurts!

Welcome aboard, FbL – women have been confusing me like that since I got off training wheels…

  • Bou

Yeah Lex! More donations are coming in! Go Navy!

I think the Marines are planning a sneak attack…

  • Were-Kitten

Mass confusion is a huge part of Were-Kitten training.

  • FbL

Lex, you think it’s a pain being confused by women? Just trying being a woman and confusing yourself! Welcome to my world…. ROFL!

  • I was a young Lance Corporal long before I turned into a crusty old Chief, so I just had to donate for the Marines. Then you, sir, make me feel guilty, and I have to donate for the Navy. Now I feel bad cause Navy’s ahead of the Marines, so I have to go back to Holly’s site and donate again…then back here…or Matt’s blog…and again I feel like a traitor…ahh, but it’s for a great cause, so what the hell, it’s only money; light, easy to carry around, everybody ought to have some.

Well, we thank you kindly for your custom, Ernie. And donating to the Corps is still a donation to the naval service. By my lights we’re so far ahead of those other people that they can’t see us. Even if the math doesn’t read that way.

  • Yeah, right Lex. *Try* to get your hands on the *green* money in the Navy budget. Dare ya. The Marines are holding you guys at such arms length you are trying to re-establish Naval Infantry.

Ernie – give to the Green Machine, man.

USS Reagan hats. How pathetic (furtively checks closet for crap to sell cheep)
