Pterodactyl

It’s a flying dinosaur.

Kind of like these things.

I saw that one coming miles and miles away.

But great pics nonetheless. But trying to post this I got this message: “Sorry, you can only post a new comment once every 15 seconds. Slow down cowboy.”

Ah the hidden feautures of this awesome website I so often visit.

I’ve always wanted to be a cowboy. :)

Spoken like a true bug driver…Of course just off to the right of the picture is the KC-10 waiting to drag the Rhinos home ;-)

  • lex

Rhino’s don’t need to be dragged anywhere’s. One-leg it across country (west-to-east) if it do ya’ fine.

Now Charlies and Alphas, that’s an altogether different issue. But it worked for me: I was bladder restricted, rather that fuel limited :-)

  • Just might be the BEST plane pr0n I’ve seen! (and I’ve seen a bunch) Thanks, Lex. I have new wallpaper for a while!

OK…just curious. Is it professional rivalry between you and the F-14 guys, or something else? I’m assuming you guys fly dissimilar counter-air sorties at TOPGUN (all caps, all one word, as I learned), is that where the ribbing comes from?

  • Were-Kitten

    But they’re so cute, Lex!

Oh… they have treatments (or Depends) available for the bladder restricted these days. Is that anything like “corrective eyewear restricted” on a drivers license?

  • I like that “Many consider this a step backwards…”

Did Grumman ever fire their PR office?

  • lex

Buck – there’s always been a bit of friendly (and some not-so-friendly) give and take between the FA-18 community, with all its gifted aviators, and the F-14 guys, who, you know: Need someone to help them.

But if you think we’re bad, you should check out the fun and games between the Ego jocks and the F-16 pilots. They put us to shame :-)

  • At least it would fly a 1+45 cycle without tanks……

The F-18E tanker……the self licking Ice Cream cone……….

  • lex

It actually can lick other people’s ice cream cones, too!

  • sid

What do you call Hornets tanking each other?

    ….Love Bugs!…..

  • badbob

    Pig-pile!

C’mon Lex, the east to west coast ain’t Lee-more to St. Louis!

re- “What do you call Hornets tanking each other?”
    Technical answer- levitating

Skippy-san: I don’t think the Hawkeye could make a double cycle with 1+45 like it did a while ago (OK- a long time). Too heavy! They’re workin’ hard back here to put a probe on it but suckin’ off an E or F is too hairy for even Chuck Yeager to do more than once! But they’ll figure something out….like retire the E-2! LOL

Hornets rule but the King’s necked! Or something like that.

  • When they put in flight refueling on the Hawkeye, it will be the handler’s dream. He’ll be down in strike ops, demanding quadruple cycles for the hummer……… Think of all the things he can do with the hummer hole besides park hummers there.

Kind of glad it won’t be my probelm any more.

Lets not forget that the Hornet and the Hawkeye are the only new production CV aircraft the Navy is buying nowadays. That is a sad commentary on the state of Naval aviation in and of itself…….

  • Cooch

Ah, many a Hornoi (pronounced Horn-wah) driver, when the lights are low and no one else is around, marvels at the not so subtle beauty of our “big fighter”

  • badbob

re “…it will be the handler’s dream.”

Who cares about the handler “dreams”? With only 65 jets aboard & lights on 24 hours a day, his job is 2/3 of what it was 12 years ago! Plenty of room.

All because of thet “new math”, eh?

re- Hawkeye and tanking…..remeber anything can be done a few times as a stunt:

    *thinks cooch is compensating*

B2 – are those pics for real? I would have called the man a liar who told me that a U-2 ever trapped aboard a carrier…

  • badbob

Yep- real and they planned to take it aboard for the deploymnet!

Have you ever seen the C-130 trapping aboard in same era? Stunt methinks same as an E-2 poking a SuperHornet…
