The thing about flying?

Sometimes you just absolutely have to get it right the first time.

Oh, and recent correspondent Randy K sent along this link to a lovely evening time-lapse photo of an FA-18 landing aboard a carrier.

That’s me in the cockpit, actually. As far as you know.

And B2 sends in this relatively short (and small, 568k) windows media clip demonstrating how very important timing can be. StallionBrunchStunt.wmv

That time lapse Hornet approach was nice. Could even see a piece of burble in thar! Thanks for posting.

Were you “actually” flying that one Lex? ;-)

Looked almost like a “KO-ZO pinkie”- did it count as a night trap? Methinks not, seeing how it may have led to a “hook skip bolter”, but it might not be, my res didn’t show a wire grab. Mode 1?

No slack and my name ain’t Jack!

  • Only one chance at getting it right, “do overs” are for the simulator.

You guys love confusing us non-Zoomies don’t you. Don’t make me break out some twidget talk! LOL ;)

    OK 3 wire. . .

I don’t think that is lex. The aircraft spotted to the side there are Rhinos (F/A-18E/F “Super Hornets) from VFA-14 and VFA-41. The pic is too recent

    :-)

    Sa-weeeeeeeeeet!

I love stupid human tricks that don’t get anyone killed or seriously hurt.

Jason, using my superannuation and advancing decreipitude against me? Scamp!

And anways, on further reflection, it appears that the landing jet may have “sparkled” a bit on the way to the 1-wire for what was probably a kiddy-car bolter.

So no. That couldn’t have been me.

MCPO Airdale (alias Plat LSO) is ready to give you an OK-3 Lex.

You better take it for the ole’ average. Pinkie still counts as a night trap, too.
