"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones
"Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra"
"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche
"A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke
“You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”--General Sir Charles Napier

"Blogito Ergo Sum" -- Neptunus Lex
Lex – I think we’re right behind you, in CT. Regular is around $3.40/gallon. Premium is a frightening $3.75/gallon. And I say that because my beloved car is supposed to use premium only – which at these prices I just can’t afford. It’s been the mid-grade at a whopping $3.60/gallon and thankfully the car runs just fine. For. Now.
So, are drivers gonna run for the border to fill up? Reminds me of my Aunt and Uncle that live in Michigan. They would take a trip to Canada to buy their drugs…
I stand corrected -got gas tonite. $2.99/gallon for regular and $3.10/gallon for premium. Prices have dropped in the past week…
I’ll stop complaining about the $2.77 a gallon I have to pay.
$2.86 for regular unleaded in South Central PA today.
Business Opportunity:
Buy a tanker full of “guzzleine” from our friends south of the border, where as Lex pointed-out, it is mucho cheaper. Drive it across the border, undercut the price of the local stations, and still make a profit. Isn’t that the way NAFTA was supposed to work?
Only problem with that, B.G., is you’d be cutting the various governments out of $0.50 / gallon (at least) in taxes, and the formulation wouldn’t meet EPA and CARB requirements.
Just think of it as San Diegans paying for Los Angelinos’ view of the mountains.
One of the things I don’t understand is how I can live in Cincinnati, and depending on the station I’m at and the area of town, I’m paying either $2.69 or $2.85. That is just SO wrong.
According to your historical real price chart at:
http://www.randomuseless.info/gasprice/gasprice.html
Even at $3.50 a gallon the pain index is still less than what I used to spend per gallon in 1980 to refuel my 911 and before that my vette!
Not that I’m happy about it….. on the other hand bro’ have you noticed how high the market has risen?
B2
Whiners.
Just be glad you aren’t stationed at SHAPE. Now that is paying the price for your Joint ticket……
$3.49 a gallon works out at US $0.92 a litre. Multiply that by the exchange rate between US and Australia and it’s equivalent to AUS $1.20 a litre.
We’re currently paying AUS $1.40 per litre without discounting. Discounting takes it down to about $1.33.
You guys aren’t too badly off – at present.
In comparison, the price of diesel (distillate) here is currently AUS $1.45 per litre, or roughly US $3.53 per gallon, absurdly high given the quality of the fuel.
What’s the price of diesel (distillate) over in the US?
$3.38 per gallon, a speck cheaper than regular, as it orta be. Here at least.
Look at the bright side tho: You’re getting VB much cheaper than we are
VB is approx $38.00 (US29.00) a slab (24 cans) here. Nice to know that some things are cheaper in Oz! Of course some may think the priorities are a bit skewed, on the other hand, some think they are just as they should be . . .
