Speaking of which, I have been most ungracious in neglecting to have you pass my regards to the lovely Hobbit (such an ungainly nom de plume for such a wonderful woman, surely there’s a story here that I missed). If she was half as kind to your nuggets as she was to me in the day, she would have been the finest skipper’s wife ever there was. Please give her my best.

She did a highly creditable job, thanks for remembering.

    CAPT Lex,

    “highly creditable job”

I’m pretty sure that is simply understatement. She’s just asking you to be humble, right?

If not, then I take back what I said about your command of the English language.

Oh, you’re very right, Subsunk. She’s a good deal better than that (and a great deal more humble than she has a right to be). It just sometimes feels that I’m luckier than a man has a right to be, and I’ve always been suspicious about bragging on good luck.

An aviator, suspicious about bragging? Surely CAPT Lex, you jest. Or at least someone must be attaching electrical leads to your “humblethalamus gland” and cranking up the power, making you more humble than most.

I’m determined, however, to avoid the internaval free for all going on over at the Milblog site on your recent post above about the 3 CVN exercise.

Although I would normally be defending my former duty stations, I find that the contributions made by all my other brothers in arms seem to be a bit more applicable today. Of course, should a Taiwan conflict erupt, I’m sure my steel boats will be a major part of the action, and yet we’ll still never hear anything from the Men who end up firing a Mk 48 warshot in anger should that happen.

Have a great day, sir, and give the missus my best.
