Say Lex,
I taught CAS for Tacron Eleven to all the west coast CVWs from 1985 to 1988. At least you didn't skip a Mk 82 Blue through the Marine mortar platoon...on a cold pass! Fortunately, no one was hurt, but that JO got a pretty good chewing on about airmanship, switchology, etc.
Keep up the great scribesmanship.

I might have missed something here ... but I assumed Lex was talking about the RVN era 105 towed USA and USMC Field Artillery piece which is in fact a Howitzer. Not good to be down range or in the air when these bad boys battery fire.I don't think Kevin's AC's spitting a lot of 105's are the same as a 105 Howitzer round.

Kevin, I did read about a pack 75 or 105 Howitzer being shoe-horned into the nose of a WWII medium (B-24?) bomber in the pacific. The idea was to give the bomber added firepower when attacking a submarine or patrol boat. I recall that the pilot of the aircraft swore that the plane for an instant stopped in mid air every time a round was fired. A wartime field/air/sea expiediency for sure. Best

Holy Cow! Either I somehow missed that in reading yoru archives, or it didn't have the same impact because I didn't know you at the time. Oh man, I still haven't relaxed from reading it!

So... how low to the ground did you get?
