Presidential censorship

I’ve held my tongue as long as I could, I’ve tried to be the good soldier. But enough of this trampling of our civil rights – now he’s gone too far:

A furious Bill Clinton is warning ABC that its mini-series “The Path to 9/11″ grossly misrepresents his pursuit of Osama bin Laden – and he is demanding the network “pull the drama” if changes aren’t made.

Clinton pointedly refuted several fictionalized scenes that he claims insinuate he was too distracted by the Monica Lewinsky sex scandal to care about bin Laden and that a top adviser pulled the plug on CIA operatives who were just moments away from bagging the terror master, according to a letter to ABC boss Bob Iger obtained by The Post.

The producers of the upcoming ABC miniseries covering the 9/11 tragedy – starting Sunday evening, getcher TiVo’s set up – apparently didn’t get the memo: Everything bad that ever happened is W’s fault – no fair spreading the blame.

All of the usual people are getting their panties in a twist on this, and before I enjoy my nice cold glass of schadenfreude, I think I’ll leaven it with a bit of the old vulgar tu quoque: To those who object at ABC’s conflation of several historical events into one dramatization, where was your parallel outrage when Michael Moore did his little “dramatization“?

*crickets*

I thought so.

(H/T to all the folks over at the Corner, who are really having a ball with this)

    I have two words…. F*CK CLINTON

That pretty much sums it up for me.

C’mon WK, tell us how you REALLY feel ;-)

I read that earlier today as well and all I could think was “boo hoo hoo for Bill”. Cuz he only wants to be remembered for Monica, and not the other FUBAR things he did…take your pick of poison Bill and take it like a man.

  • (Shameless blog promo on the same topic)

Payback’s a b!tch, ain’t it Billy Bob. Sucks to be you. Hope you didn’t sink too much of your own money (fat chance of that) into your presidential library and your “legacy”. I really feel sorry for you…not.

  • Jeff

Aren’t the liberal folks who are complaining about this the same people who urged non-stop
showings of Fahrenheit 911 the night before the 2004 election?

  • Steve

To paraphrase what a smarter guy on the radio said today: Clinton oughta take the free excuse i.e., Monica) that’s been handed to him. Otherwise he’ll have no excuse for not paying attention to the country’s business. (But I’m so sure that he worked harder than he ever did before in his whole life to catch that man, Mr. Bin Laden. Every time.)

  • Clinton vs ABC…

It would seem that Bill is none too pleased about his portrayal in the upcoming ABC mini-series “The Path to 9/11.”

In the article Clinton claims he was concerned, and received daily reports “on bin Laden’s reported location.” Well if he received these reports, why didn’t he do anything?! That is what the mini-series is all about– failure to do what needed to be done post embassy bombing, USS Cole, WTC 1, etc.

  • I remember when USS Cole got the hole blown in her side, complete with godawful revolting casualties. All I could think of was what Daffy Duck said, i.e. “I suppose you realize that this means war?”

If I understood, and an animated cartoon character understood what was up, why did not the President of the United States understand what was up?

Billy is a fleeting memory for me..all I can visualize when his name comes up are visions of him with that cigar?? and him biting his lip and lecturing, “I didn’t have (you know what) with that woman xxxxx….”

Oh yeah, and then singing on stage with Hill, ALG, & Tipper: “Don’t Stop Thinking About Tommorrow”…can you see it in your minds eye?

His legacy lives on with me. Oh yeah.

My opinion is a little different:

1 – WJC *was* highly distracted by the ML controversy. Everyone knows it. The media storm was unavoidable for months and months.

2 – ABC appears to be peddling a lot of made-up dialogue in the film they’re putting forth, that’s by their own admission (see WaPo Howard Kurtz Media column today). It is made “in the spirit of 9/11.” To me that is cheap pandering for a buck. Making up dialogue of recent gov’t officials and marketing it as “what led up to 9/11″ is taking the whole event to a low denominator just to make a buck.

3 – M Moore did the same sorts of things up in F9/11. That is very clear as well.

Just because F9/11 was full of twisted conclusions and half-truths doesn’t mean we should be happy that ABC is doing the same thing – especially about an issue as large as 9/11.

ABC should be ashamed for pandering with sensational “fictional” dialogue – and they’re probably laughing all the way to the bank about the publicity they’re getting. M Moore should be ashamed for how he twisted events in his film (and for the money he made as well). Neither is right and I think the whole thing stinks.

Yeah, I’m trying to come out of my shell and be more honest. hehe…

But seriously, ABC has maintained all along that this miniseries is “fiction based upon fact”. It’s no different than just about ANY documentary-made-into-a-movie. It’s not an editorial.

The biggest difference between this series and F911 is that F911 took a LOT of taped interviews out of context and mislead some of the interviewees about the point of the movie.

The media has been notoriously biased against the current Republican administration, and now that they are putting forth a story about a prior Democratic administration, the Dem’s are hitting the roof.

I stand by my original statement: F*ck You.

  • While Bill’s at trying to cover his ass, maybe he can call his personal aide, Buzz Patterson, a liar. Take a few hours to read what Bill did, when he should have been attending to the affairs of the Nation.

If I recall, Buzz was never admonished by his profession for a lack of professionalism, let alone being convicted of being a liar by a judge in the judicial system the left wing loves to use, instead of a ballot box.

Quite honestly, it’s getting sickening to see such blantant attempts to “chill” free speech. Hillary could certainly stand up and screech about not being allowed to dissent, but when it comes to taking a formal national document and presenting it, her family has a problem.

Who really wants the police state? I’d say it’s Clinton and the Democrats, taking away free speech , even in the private sector. I believe the point of the Constititional protections of free speech were specifically put there to protect citizens from the government squelching them. I think an outcry of a former president is very much like a goernment official telling the people what they can and can’t say. I guess the question is: Is he acting as a living president, or as a private citizen, when he applies his “influence” to this situation..

And…what documents didn’t ever make it into the report (probably the really damning ones), because Sandy Burger stole official government documents (and, yes, was convicted in a court of law) that would have shed even more light on what really happened?

Hmmmm…that reminds me of the famous Bill Clinton letter to his ROTC advisor, saying he was getting out to make him viable for a future political career, which…yep, you guessed, also had been removed from the records of the University in question….

The terrorists like to keep going after aircraft, because that’s a favorite tactic. Looks like the Clinton’s tactic is removing of evidence…oh, toss in the search of Vince Foster’s residence, by Hillary’s staff before the law enforcement people got in there.

Al Gore can tell lies about the state of the Universe and our planet, Mikkael Moore gets a pass, the “Loose Change” 9/11 was a hoax video can get press, but…just tell the story of a govenrnment investigation and all hell breaks loose.

  • I approve of all spelling errors in my previous post (pick a post, any of them)…

    I can spell, I just can’t type….

Did you see the photo op for righteous, lip biting indignation yesterday over this issue.
Kerry, Clinton & Carter lined up left to right?

    Ooops wrong link. Sorry.
