Blood Brothers

FbL proves that she’s got a great future writing book reviews, in case she ever finds that this whole earthbound angel thing is just a bit too much like work, with none of the pay or other advantages. Blood Brothers traces the story of those maimed in the war, by a journalist who has a rather unusual connection to his subjects:

Weisskopf himself lost his dominant hand while embedded with soldiers in Iraq in preparation for the Time magazine 2003 Person of the Year edition. He picked up a grenade that landed in his vehicle and awoke to a whole new life: Ward 57 of Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Read the whole thing.

Read Fbl’s writeup and the articles on CNN and Time. Wow! I am sure the book itself would be an amazing read … and overwhelmingly emotional.
Would be nice if there were a way to get the book into the hands of every severely-injured soldier and those others mentioned by Fbl. What a gift to give.

Why doesn’t Hollywood do a movie about this story? We’re 5 years into “war” and they haven’t yet…

WWII lasted from 1941 to 1945. The academy award winner in 1946 was “The Best Years of Our Lives”.
