A brief conversation between your humble scribe and his Ambien (5 mg)

YHS: Well, hello. You’re rather a little thing, aren’t you?

Ambien: Just try me out, sugar. I think you’ll find out that good things come in small packages.

YHS: Well, it’s just that I’ve never actually been with a prescription sleep medicine before. I’ve been saving myself. But I had this really bad night last night, and then of course I took a long nap this afternoon. So now… It’s just… Well… I’m a little worried that I won’t be able to, you know: Perform.

I’ve always had a hard time when I travel.

Ambien: You just lie down back down there on the bed and let me worry about that.

YHS: Well, this is new. Since we’re trying things on for size, do you think maybe we should call over one of your little friends? Just in case? Then it could be, you know: Just the three of us?

Ambien: If it comes to that, kinky. Lie back and close your eyes. That’s it. There.

YHS: I don’t. It’s not. I don’t think it’s working.

Ambien:Hush.

YHS:

Ambien: Room service.

YHS: Whunh?

Ambien: It’s room service, knocking on the door. They’ve brought you your breakfast. It’s 0800, honey. And time for me to go.

YHS: Wha? How? Will we ever meet again?

Ambien: Sure, baby. Call me.

  • Bwahahahaha! No, I reckon yer not an Admiral Striker, not with the lighthearted smartassery publicly displayed just there. I almost stopped breathing, from the diaphragm spasms.

As I’ve written above, if I were President and Congress combined you’d be an admiral; considering what we know about you, we’d have to jump you up immediately to *Vice* Admiral.

  • Wow! I’d heard that before about Ambien, but I didn’t know it was true. The last guy I heard telling that story had a warning – don’t take it sitting down in an armchair with a drink in your hand.

  • Jet lag is why God invented booze……..

Its a lot more fun, and if you are in the right hotel in Bahrain, you can enjoy it to the tunes of a great Filipino band. Which by the way, is the reason they sell many things in the exchange…….

1 pint sleeping pills beat the hell out of your little friend…any day of the week.

    50 (fifty) mg? Holy mol?ɬ

  • Tom

50 (fifty) mg? Holy molé. Is that what the Navy docs figure they have to use to put an almost-flag high speed low drag officer down for 6-8 hours?

Max dose is 10 mg – OK, 12.5 for the CR iteration but when was the last time you saw the guvmint spring for the latest greatest brand name stuff?

So, fifty milligrams… should be good for anterograde amnesia at least. Do let us know how you make out today, Cap’n. If we don’t hear from you within, say, 8-10 hours, we’ll call SAR.

If you choose to respond, please include all TriCare info – for billing purposes.

    Cheers,
    Dr. Evil

P.S. Did you read the label before or after you popped the pill?

    • Symptoms of a zolpidem overdose may include sleepiness, confusion, dizziness, difficult or slow breathing, and unconsciousness.

Now, to be fair, that could also occur at any staff briefing lasting over an hour involving Powerpoint. Unassisted by meds.

    Still, do be careful Skipper

  • Ah yes, Ambien. Such a sweet little thing, sneaks up on you with a punch that you don’t see coming.

As long as you wake up….and know who you are and where you are, then all is well.

But maybe tonite – half an Ambien would be just the thing. Less talking back. Unlike that burrito you had last November – http://www.neptunuslex.com/?p=275.

LMAO…. Yes, treasures do come in small packages- as long as you know how to use the treasure, it’s all good!

It is troubling that inanimate edible objects talk to you when you’re out of town though.

    mmmmmmmmmm … ambien ….

  • Michelle

LM@O indeed…….so so happy for you, so glad to see that even despite the relevant General Order you managed to finally got some……. :)
But must agree with Tim and Kris…… well, of course, as a man of your (ahem) age would well know……you must be very very careful these days as to exactly what you do in the evenings and with whom…… Hope it doesn’t come back too bad to bite you today. Some of those little fellows can pack a tremendous punch!

  • Let me add my astonishment to Dr. Evil’s comment about a 50mg dose of Ambien. My doctor gives me 25 10mg tablets every six months. I initially asked for them because I was doing some international travel, for which they are ideal.

I’ve always suffered from insomnia, and am a very light sleeper. I find half a tablet is enough to put me under for a solid six to eight hours. I rarely take the whole 10mg pill at once.

If I took five of them I doubt if I would ever wake up!

It’s hard for me to take Ms. Ambien seriously when her bottle warns me that she may cause drowsiness.

No, really?? ‘Twould be the entire point, wouldn’t it??

    I love her nonetheless.

Lex, I’d be a little concerned about the effects of taking your Ambien more than occasionally, especially if it is a strong dose. If you’re not used to sleep medicines, they can have funny effects if used say, three nights in a row, or more than three nights in a week. They are less effective at this rate, and all of them can become addictive, even after a short time.

I was given Stilnox last year for jetlag and after taking them for 2 nights in a row, they gave me hideous leg cramps and sleeplessness for a week afterwards and it took ages to get them out of my system.
I use Temazepam now which are milder, but they can also be non-effective after regular use and your sleeping patterns after using them can be as bad as what caused you to take them in the first place.
So, I guess I am saying, occasional use only and drink heaps of water the next day.
    Take care.

Might be that your humble scribe, in his weariness (not to mention the parlous state of his near vision these days) might have misread the label on the vial.

Might be that it was a fivemg dose.

    Prolly was.

DrE: You know what this means, Sir.

    HS:

    DrE: Sir?

    HS:

    DrE: Down chit. Sorry, Sir.

    HS:

DrE: Report to Opthalmology Clinic tomorrow – 0800 sharp.

    HS:

DrE: Not to worry, Sir. Nobody’ll see the glasses when you pull your helmet visor down.

    HS: Zzzzzzz

DrE: Might as well stop by Proctology, too.

I take 20 mg Ambien each night because Paxil gives me horrendous insomnia (acts like a stimulant on my brother, too). 10 mg of Ambien only makes me drowsy for a while without actually sleeping. I wouldn’t give up the Paxil for anything — if only it had existed 30 years ago!!! But the Ambien can definitely surprise you. It used to make me kind of goofy before sleep, but no more. Too bad — my wife was often quite entertained by my late-night soliloquies. I’m pretty sure I met Goldstein’s dancing armadillo at least once. Had quite a few midnight eating binges for a while. Very few of those anymore.

  • I adore Ambien. I found your website, because I used to be able to take 5 mg and have a great night’s sleep, then 10 to accomplish the same. (During that time, I worked as a flight attendant, and was often away on trips to Asia and Europe (for almost a week) One day, my husband and I were lamenting that we seldom see eachother. I asked “When was the last time we even made love?” His surprised response was: “Last night doesn’t count?” ohhh dear….
Still, little by little the 10 was no longer effective enough, and so my doctor now has me on 15 mg. Tonight it’s not working, so I went on here to find out if anyone else is on this high a dose and whether or not it’s safe or recommended?

  • delayedsleeppattern

Well, not recommended for evryone, but I have a delayed sleep pattern and cannot fall asleep until AFTER the sun is rising, so to maintain a “regular” lifestyle I take Ambien and have for almost 5 years. Long ago 5 mg worked, then 10, and so on. Now to sleep immediately I take 60 mg a couple times a month to “catchup” when I am ready to drop and still cannot sleep and then use 20-30 mg other nights. This may kill most people, I know, friend took too much and her husband called me one night to find out if he should be worried and told him to shove her in bed, hold her down and she would sleep, which she did but yes, she has not taken it since as she took 20 mg, forgot she took it and took more. I set out my nightly dose, put the rest away in out of the way places I cannot easily reach to be safe as once I did the same thing and took half a bottle when I swore I only took 3, so it does have a true amnesia effect at times but only for the time after you take it and only if you do not get your butt into bed fast enough!!
