There's no question Dan that the Bay area has both a proud tradition of supporting the troops, and folks who still do. It's some of the elected officials there that feel empowered to say provocative things as a form of street theater that give me the piles.

They've a right to make fools of themselves. I've a right to call them on it.

Actually, you know what sir, some of my best classmates for sure are from California, and specifcally northern California. Real good guys, but of course you never hear of them, which may or may not be fortunate. On one hand, hopefully this only makes the press because they know it will rile people up (hopefully against this school board), whereas the short paragraph on one brother completing plebe summer in my company and the other completing OCS first in his company is just ordinary, something that won't get people riled up.

This decision frustrated the heck out of me. Without MCJROTC, I firmly belive that my son would have been a HS dropout instead of Cadet Major and cadet of the year. He was one of those who did go one to active duty after graduation and had his first promotion at the end of boot camp courtesy of those four years of JROTC participation.

I think the SF school board is horribly short sighted to cut a program that does so much good. But then, they don't much like the Boy/Girl Scouts either *sigh*.
