A kind of justice

I’d prefer to attribute this decision to a sudden outburst of taste, but I think the market might have had something to do with it as well:

  • At a forum to which I belong (www.TheHighRoad.org) there is a sticky, locked thread in the “Strategies and Tactics” subforum.

It warns against posting bloodthirsty hypothetical cases. Would that publishers of books would refrain from doing that, ‘specially in cases that are closer to truth than fiction.

  • But how is OJ going to pay his greens fees now?
Those country clubs in Florida are not cheap.

    ;-)

  • My getting the news story. We were in Puerto Rico doing drug operations. The verdict was to be announced at 12:30. We gave the squadron an hour and a half off to go watch the verdict.
( As it was drug ops most of our flying was in the afternoon or at night). As a squadron we got a room up in the O’club and had lunch together…….you could have knocked us all over when he was aquitted. Guys were walking out the door saying the same thing, ” You have got to be ******** me!”

That day was the first day I really became aware of the racial divide on this case. We had a couple of African American Sailors who, when they heard our amazement tried passionately to convince me that he was being persecuted because of his race. “Skipper they are only going after him because he’s black…….” . I did not know what to say , so I just remained silent finally muttering something about everyone having the right to an opinion. I was amazed though.

As far as I am concerned, he did it. In 10 years no one has made a logical case otherwise.

Nice to find something universal – that everyone can agree on. I don’t mean here…..I mean out there.
    Gawd, that was sick!

Enough outrage? I don’t think so. I think it is the lack of outrage that is the problem. Everything is reduced to entertainment, a few seconds of curiosity, and we move on.

  • Darn. Just darn. I was sooooo hoping to finally learn how he got that damned glove to shrink.

  • What disgusts me even more is that someone thought it was worthwhile to edit, print and schedule interviews for the bastard. And I read last night (http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/TV/11/20/oj.cancel.ap/index.html) that at one point the book was #20 on Amazon; dropped to #51 the next day.

I’d like to know what REALLY happened to make Murdoch issue such a statement; he’s never been one to shrink from scandal or salaciousness.

Saw the verdict in the student lounge at an Ivy League law school. People sticking their heads in through every window to see the verdict, and pretty much everyone shocked both by the outcome and the sudden and immediately visible racial divide exposed among us viewers. Picked up my book and went off to class thinking that this is all bullshit … the law is an ass.

Simpson himself is beyond loathing. All sentinent human beings know that.

On the other hand, I find this Judith Regan chick, one of those “Bonfire of the Vanities” type,x-ray woman of neurotic NYC fame, responsible for this latest buffoonery. Can you imagine she invested in this concept “book & interview” in order to “find” her own catharsis to her own personal problems?

Sick wacko. Big time. There so much “beyond the pale” going on that the pale has been exceeded….Fellini I tells ya.

    Irony ain’t in it.

Have any of you read what the publisher, Judith Regan, had to say about the book? She wanted it published as a public confession, so that OJ would finally get his just rewards for killing Nicole and Ron. Judith herself was brutally beaten by her ex, who was never fully punished for the deed. Puts an interesting spin on “why in the HELL would anyone allow that book to even be written, much less printed and published”.

  • I read about the Regan idiot this morning. How DARE she try to exorcise her own demons at the expense of the Brown and Goldman families. That’s what a good therapist is for, for the love of all that is holy.

I remember sitting in my family room with my closest friend at the time, glued to the verdict. To say we were shocked is an understatement – I recall that I cried for the families, wondering how they would EVER get the justice they deserved. The civil judgement was symbolic, at best.

  • Guy

If you do a quick check of Judith Regan’s career, you’ll find that she has made what money she does have by exploiting just this type of thing. Absolutely disgusting. Just a gun for hire.

I was standing in the squad room with fellow homicide detctives when the verdict was read (does anyone remember the look on Robert Shapiro’s face?). After a few long seconds of stunned silence, one of the guys muttered, “Damn, I really thought he did it.”

For what it’s worth, I know Simpson, and we haven’t heard the last of him. He HAS to talk about it, he HAS to remind everyone how he “scored” again…it’s all about HIM.

The REAL killer must be a scratch golfer, since O.J. spends all of his time on the links looking for him.

I seriously doubt that taste has anything to do with Murdoch’s decision, either, based upon his galaxy of trashy publications.
“We agree with the American public” means that it was purely a business decision – no money here, move along.
