No, not the part in the middle (which if earthy language offends, steer clear). The two words at the end.

Targets of Opportunityblog advertising is good for you Credo"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones "Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra" "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche "A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke “You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”--General Sir Charles Napier "Μολὼν λαβέ" -- Leonidas "Blogito Ergo Sum" -- Neptunus Lex Amazon AssociateFor the Effort!Winnar!![]() Subscribe![]() CategoriesPagesTagsacademy

…when you care enough to send the very best FLY NAVY!
Hmmm. Methinks the pilot(s) are getting a bit sloppy?
Two attacks, identical attack run both times, and the flares at the end of the run looked like they were being punched just so he could check off the box “Used flares on egress.”
Am I missing something? I seem to remember from reading about air combat in Vietnam that one of the lessons we keep forgetting (and forgot again in Kosovo, to the annoyance of a F177A pilot) is that you never attack twice on the same axis – always come at the target from a different angle each time.
You’re right in general, especially in a non-permissive environment. But this look like urban work, which very often means restricted attack axes – otherwise you can get structural interference or collateral damage issues. As for his use of expendables, I guess that depends on his evaluation of the threat – at least he’s getting them out.
The earthy language – $1,500
The flying – $2,500
The last 2 words – priceless
Lex,
What was the pause between runs? Were they hitting a tanker??
N
Shipmates,
Hmmmmmm. Seems to me the video was cut off in mid sentence. I believe that, in the vernacular, the words “Go Navy” are always followed by “Beat Army!”…….
That’s one of the rules of usage, is it not?
As much as I do love me some props, I will (begrudgingly) admit to a fondness for the fullthroated roar of highly compressed air being mixed with fuel vapors and ignited. Amazing what they can do with stovepipes these days
Respects,
Tim – Each year I buy a new bumper sticker, “Go Navy – Beat Army”, however, with the goings on in the gulf I now cut off the beat Army part(right after the game).
No snark intended but is this truly “close air support”? The birds appear to be about a mile to a mile and a half away and flying(Zooming) at 1000 to 1500 feet…air support yes and most welcome I’m sure… but close air support? Airdales Please advise. Best
PS, I’m acutely aware that I might be having a Pedantic Peckerwood moment…that said… GO ARMY …BEAT NAVY
CAS defined by distance from observer to target, not platform to target…
…and that comment merely to permit me to echo Snake Eater w/o seeming gratuitous in saying.. GO ARMY ..BEAT NAVY
MajMike, The current definition of CAS makes sense if you equate the air platform in the video and it’s standoff weapons systems with an artillery fire base supporting ground troops over a wide area. Thanks for the clarification… In olden times however…the observer, the target and the air platform often had a much more intimate relationship. Best
Wouldn’t that make a great “spirit video” to show during the game? You know, put a little “From x Batt, Y Infantry Co, US Army, Iraq” graphic up, and then the final run with the appropriate cheer. Would beat the heck out of those staged things they do.
Hey all you Army guys,
Why the rush to judgement and the assumption that the utterances of the appreciative audience were in fact Army? They could be Marines, and remember the Marine Corps is just part of the Navy…..(Incomplete sentence will, follwing a semi-colon, permit Marines and former Marines the chance to complete it, with their usuual refrain.)
To the Navy Team, on Saturday your signal is “Buster” – Golf Oscar / November Alpha Victor Yankee / — Bravo Echo Alpha Tango / Alpha Romeo Mike Yankee !!
Permissive environment. Total air dominace (well at least above 15K)
Are they firing rockets 2.75/3.0 or guns? Doesn’t sound like guns (no ziiiip). I’m assuming it’s a Hornet (if it’s Navy, what else). What am I missing?
Concur on the flares. Looks like a 8-10K pickle. If they’re shooting rockets it probably isn’t CAS Snake, plus those two camera operators don’t sound like JTACs.

was really just bluffing the answer, trying to remember the little bits they crammed into my noggin at AGOS, where many was the time i was able to work into the conversation a phrase such as, “GO ARMY, BEAT NAVY”, on much more slender pretext than this.
