Did you know you could purchase retiring US cavalry horses from the US Army? According to the USA Today:

Rojo and Ninety-Nine are 10-year-old quarter horses who have been ceremonial mounts in the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood in Texas, and now they’re heading into retirement.

The Defense Department’s online-auction contractor says it’s looking for a loving home where the horses will have plenty of room to roam.

“They certainly have served with honor, and we want to make sure they’re taken care of,” said Tom Burton, president and chief operating officer of Government Liquidation, which contracts with the government to sell military surplus items online.

The site is here, and you can get lost traipsing through the stuff that’s been discarded. Just don’t tell the Kat.

Just what you need Lex, a well-broke gelding that is accustomed to standing at ease during artillery fire. Maybe even a little or a lot deaf. Make sure you get a good pre-purchase exam. They still using that “U.S.” hot brand?

Uh-oh, A mount with “Navicular” won’t stand up to Kat’s ambitions. Look elsewhere.

    Dear Kat,

Wouldn’t you be a lovely sight mounted on such a lovely Morgan as one of these? Just for light traipsing around the paddock, and for practicing bugle calls.

Just tell that crusty old fuddy duddy that you really really want one, and that you would like it better than tickets to some silly old concert.

Best wishes for your good luck…

There is something majestic about a carrier at sea. I think the Song Capt. thought so too. Grrrr.
