Never did make it to Cubi/Subic. Bit before my time. But I DID secure a recipe for Mojo from an old salt I chanced across upon on message board.

I still get hits DAILY from google searches for any combination of “cubi” “subic” “olongopo” “philippines” and “mojo” for this post from 4 years ago. I’m told it’s close, but I have it on good authority that without a generous helping of Mekong, it still ain’t quite there.

Excelent story – did not get to the “O” club, but spent many a night across the “shit river”. Being a tender sailor had a different “slant” on the PI. We stayed after the ships we back to sea, prices dropped, and things slowed down.

We once managed, using a fleet of Special Services sailboats, to assault Grande Island. We held the island, briefly, until the natives retaliated sinking one vessel. Three crewmen sustained injuries in the battle.
