I recall reading somewhere a while back that among other life's necessities like food & medical suppiles, US troops were handing out soccer balls to kids.

*Any* way to divert attenion and energies from butchering each other is fine with me.

Just an observation:

Whenever Mexico has played in the latter rounds of the World Cup, the streets, in some areas of Los Angeles are clogged with vehicles flying the flag of Mexico, and chanting throngs of Mexicans; who may be in our country legally or ilegally (for the purposes of this observation it doesn't matter).

On game days, gang and domestic violence stops during the hours of play; but the respite is brief. Wins or losses are sometimes followed by hours of riotious behavior; and within hours the shooting begins again.

I wouldn't expect a big difference in Iraq.
