Worth getting behind

Got this note from a nice lady:

I’m a 24-year old recent UCLA Phi Beta Kappa grad who’s trying to do my part for the troops overseas and the injured veterans in hospitals here. I spent a year producing a 1940s style Pin-Up Calendar that I am selling. Please see the website www.PinUpsForVets.com

The proceeds go toward programs at the Veterans Hospital, and I am hand-delivering the donated calendars to the Vets (see “In The Field” link on my website). I am also working with an organization that is shipping the donated calendars to Iraq and Afghanistan to the deployed military.

So far, I’ve sold just over 200 calendars and received thank you letters from people all over the world for doing this. Now I’m hoping to reach an even larger audience. I was recently contacted by a Marine Captain from San Diego who invited me to visit the medical holding platoon there, which treats 55 recently injured soldiers. They are called the “Wounded Warriors.” My goal is to bring a calendar to each of them in a few weeks and I think that your readers could help me reach this goal. Would you be willing to post a story about the project with one of the shots from my website (you can drag them directly off the site onto the desktop)?

Please let me know! I look forward to hearing from you.

Gina Elise

Let me please remind you that that this is for a good cause.

  • My name is Captain Jason Grose, USMC, and I am helping Gina with the visit she mentions in your post. She is for real (despite her goddess appearance on the calendar) and has pretty much single-handedly thought up, produced, starred in, and babied this project from start to end which includes going around to distribute the work. In my position, I see many similar efforts but not to this degree and not by such a small staff of pretty much one. Please help her if you can. She is doing it from the heart.

Email for more info or questions.

  • LOL, Lex you are great humanitarian for passing along this info.

nice? lady?? well, I wasn’t offended by the calendar, in fact, I think it makes a nice change from the usual…….still, I don’t know that I’d send my soldier this one…..and certainly not my daughter’s soldier!

I’m sure my opinion will be in the minority. And it is a good cause……

  • As I scrolled down I was half expecting some frumpy old dowager in bowling apparel.

    Boy, was I wrong!

  • For what its worth the USAF blocks that web site too. It comes up as “forbidden-provacative attire.”

Which probably sums it up nicely.

  • Aaww! Oooh! Dang! That is not the least bit objectionable, by *non-silly* grownups!

    Again; Awww! and Oooh!

  • Michelle

    Can anybody say “guy thing”?
    Objectionable…..nah
    Guy thing……..definitely!

What does “Phi Beta Kappa” mean?

    Nah. Forget I asked!

As WWII vets of my fathers generation would say- Hubba-Hubba.

  • I agree with Capt Grose, this lady has it together. I have commicated with her by email and have been impressed with the energy she puts into this project. The world needs more just like her.
Take it from an old Navy Aircrew Vet, she ain’t bad to look at either.
