    Light vs Darkness perhaps?

  • scarshapedstar

South Park Conservatism, we hardly knew ye.

  • I hope no one – on either side – professes shock at this.

  • Babs

The use of profanity is a crutch used by those whos’ vocabulary is lacking other, more definitive, words to express themselves.
At least that is what I always told my children.

    re: “South Park Conservatism”

I don’t think those guys have a blog. Which is a shame.

Profanity is the vanity of shallow fools.

Now “salty” language is something else. It implies a sound knowledge of all things elemental and mechanical, Nature, [Mother and human], crows feet from endless squinting at the horizon, a rolling gait, and profound situational awareness. Salty does not suffer fools, period.

    How to tell the difference?

The proface keep on repeating the same old words ad nauseum. The salty can swear eloquently for many minutes, in several languages, without repeating themeselves once.

    Holy CRAP!! (oh, sorry)
I admit to being surprised it was such a huge difference, but then, I am new to blogs and led a sheltered childhood……

being married to a soldier and working in a variety of factories expanded (contracted?) my vocabulary…my vocab sure contracted a few words!! (ah-choo!)

I’d bet the lefty blogs are slightly more vituperous, as well……
    any takers?
(btw, looked up vituperous online to see that I was spelling correctly and not letting my ignorant redneck show….and couldn’t find it!! ideas? did I right?)

    respectfully, d

  • Yet another time we didn’t get out and support Lex and his blog to get him in the top 10.

    Shit.

    Nose

  • Doorkeeper – I think you want “vituperative” and based on the few times I’ve lurked on blogs on the left, you’d be right. Hate spewing, no substance. Just check out this little tiny list of some of the stuff said about the Bagram bombing and the possiblity of Cheney as a target:

    “They missed! Too bad.”

“You can’t kill pure evil. You have to drive a stake through it.”

“If at first you don’t succeed…”

    “Better luck next time!”

    “Dr. Evil escapes again…damn.”

“They missed?? Dammit. I hope they try again before he leaves.”

    Niiice.

    Thanks, Kris…..
wow, I can’t believe they said that. I mean, I know how they are, but I was raised different, you know?

My Grandma would’ve taken them to the woodshed…..with a paddle in one hand and a bar of lye soap in the other…..

  • DoorKeeper: you’ve never lurked on some of the leftie sites? I do it just for the laughs, but sometimes it really is scary, as you can see from the above. Those came from the Huffington Post site, I believe. And those are the ones that could be printed in “polite company”…

Rather than engagin in any sort of intelligent debate, they generally just get down into the muck and mire, hurl insults – then run.

  • All it tells me is that a) many of the right blogs don’t allow comments, which is where the swear words usually are and b) they delete comments pretty quickly if they have swear words. The left blogs could do the same

Re Huffpo-they did come on Fox News yesterday and repudiate the commenters who spoke out in favor of the death of the Vice President yesterday. So they deserve some credit.

I heard a story of an old Gunnery Sargent on his death bed. His buddies were standing around keeping him company with beers in their fists. Suddenly, Smedley, (his name), sat bolt upright and shouted in the fashion of Gunnery Sargents, “F@#*em all!”, and expired.
    Now that says it all.

ps: any Marines out there should know the story and Smedley’s last name. I forgot it. Sorry.

Kris, got any places to start checking leftie blogs? I am hesitant…will have to take it slow, because although I could use a good laugh, I am not known for my sense of humor….actually stopped watching and reading all news for quite some time, because it made me froth at the mouth and shout at the television (newspaper) (radio) and gave my dh so much enjoyment.
On TV, the only place I have seen much since (gave up print for lack of time and the only radio I listen to is Christian)
the lefties of course do not use foul language, but their attitudes are so nasty (as are many of the righties) that I wonder that Grandma hasn’t risen up and taken over the whole durn country…..she’d find the attitudes, the lack of manners and general hate, just as bad as the occasional sh*t!
to say nothing of those words she professes to not know the meanings of–she knows they are nasty by the way they are said.

Skippy, surely you’re not saying that
Righties (forgive my political incorectness and lack of general polish, I’m not used to exalted company) that the Rightie blogs (gasp, shudder) CENSOR the comments??
no free speech?? but that the Leftie blogs don’t? Are there really no profane or vulgar utterances in the posts?

lest you think I am being sarcastic, let me say I really don’t know whereof I speak…do you have any recommended reading?

I believe the left/right disparity is real and pronounced. I’m not sure it’s intrinsic, though, so much as an illustration of Megan McArdle’s wonderful law:

“The devotees of the party in power are smug and arrogant. The devotees of the party out of power are insane.”

I wonder whether, around the beginning of year 7 in the next two-term Democratic presidency (shudder), the ratio won’t be reversed.

  • DoorKeeper: you could try the Daily Kos (www.dailykos.com) and the Huffington Post (www.huffingtonpost.com). If you scroll down thru the Daily Kos, you’ll find their blogroll on the lower right – plenty of material to cruise thru.

I highly suggest you gird your loins before diving into that particular swamp. And make sure your water pressure is at the top of its game – you’ll need to take a nice hot shower afterwards.

I like that – I really like that!

I do believe THIS belongs here:

I am not sure that I would recommend your planned foray, doorkeeper. Remember my previous comments as to how everyone should be forced to frequent a blog a little to the left or a little to the right of their current persuasion? Please don?

Remember my previous comments as to how everyone should be forced to frequent a blog a little to the left or a little to the right of their current persuasion? Please don’t stray too far (left) afield, I wouldn’t want to see you get hurt. A comment on the (too far left) afield, not on you.

  • JPS

Michelle: Only quoting, but glad you liked it as much as I did!

  • Doorkeeper. Come on over to the dark side……..

The water is fine. They even have some funny stuff too……….

  • unkawill

The Left’o'sphere, mind numbing multicultural inanities, spouted vociferously by those unexposed to the real world.

  • GEO6

Skippy’s just a “glass half empty” kinda guy and savors it. And doesn’t care if the water is putrid either. To each…

  • Snake Eater

Skippy-San…is just having his way with you all…he’s likely off his meds. Best

  • No meds here-except beer!

I’m just naturally high on life……….
