This feels a little weird, frankly, but follow up to the story about the judge “sentencing” two Pennsylvania men to the Navy can be found here. At The Flight Deck.
The Navy has turned down two 19-year-old men who pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges after a Pennsylvania judge offered to drop probation from their sentence to help them enlist.
Good news from my perspective, but I’m almost afraid to hit “Publish” on this one. It feels like “crossing the streams,” or something.

So…what’s with all the Ghostbusters references around here lately?
When I want to hire a new person for my small business I follow a simple recruiting rule in building my pool of candidates. If I have but one person, I must make a decision. When I have two people in my pool, I can make my choice. The best case is to have three or more; then I can make a selection!
I would not want to be required to accept an employee at the order of a judge; why would the Navy want to do it for themselves?
Rah, rah for the blue and gold!!!
Ghostbusters?, I thought it was a “Spaceballs” reference. You know getting your schwartz crossed up with the next guy.
…I’m a little surprised at the Judge – when I recruited in 89-93, it had already been DOD policy for years that we would not take anyone who had to enlist as a condition of avoiding a criminal penalty. That’s not to say it didn’t happen – it wasn’t unknown for a person who hadn’t yet been sentenced to mention he was thinking about enlisting and the Judge to drop the case, but he’d better go in.
But in this case, I’m not sure what His Honor was thinking.
Mike
You might as well accept it Lex. Your blog is cutting edge.
“afraid to hit ‘Publish’ on this one. It feels like ‘crossing the streams’”
Blah blah blah. Just admit it Lex, you’re just bummed you didn’t see/post this first …
Nose is on fire lately. I couldn’t stop reading his post on the Flight Deck yesterday; even though my laptop battery did it’s darndest to make me stop.
