"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones
"Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra"
"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche
"A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke
“You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”--General Sir Charles Napier

New guy asked me once “Why do the Hornets always use burner off of the cat at night.”
Reply? “Because they can, son. Because they can.”
Nice vid.

Very cool vid. Guess I will have to mosey my way back to TFD and see what else I’m missing. This working for a living is a…….
Do you guys do anything to protect your night vision if you do a night missile shot?
Too many bugs
Nice to see some poultry though.
Nose,
When I was an Intruder bubba I flew my share of 2Q6 missions (that’d be tanker hops) and used to grit my teeth when the Hornets would always select blower off the cat. More than once I swore that if I ever transitioned, by God I wasn’t going to waste that gas.
CQ not included, don’t think I ever failed to bend ‘em past the detent as soon as the holdback fitting broke.
Absolutely spectacular video!
Thanks JHD!
Plane p0rn, my favorite!
That last video was way better than the “Philaelphia Freedom” PR video the Navy showed our CAP group once.
The USDA apparently now blocks access to Youtube.com (and many other media and information sites via WebSense)as “not work related” sites. You need to file for permissions to use individual websites with a justification of work relatedness. Includes some Milblogs and Middle Eastern Media sites as well. Must be like the PRC internet. Another tool to limit access to knowledge, disguised as a productivity enhancement.
Carriers are so cool. Even if I am a submariner and tend to think of anything that floats as a target…
My son-in-law is a little PO’d: his Youtube access got cut a few months ago. But trust the Internet to find a way around this, they always do.
Vid brings back memories.
Vid brings back memories.
Other relpy: So they can practice their tanking skills right after launch.

I’m with ya Jason. Nice to see some Toms.
Caught a glimpse of some November Kilo markings there… Got your Fisters in that one, no?
good vid, Just needed a shot of the whale dance for old times and dramatic effect. When you see yellow shirts heading for the catwalks you know it’s time to take a break on the veranda below the LOX farm.
Great editing. That’s some of the best video I’ve seen, with the music and all. I love the one cut near the end when you see the altimeter spinning down as the one plane is coming in to land. Neato
I bumped across a site of CORAL SEA sea stories today. Some fun reading there.
One fun one about a nugget A-7 guy who mis-IDed homeplate and took off with reminders all over the exterior…two pics included…
Just goes to show that real life should come with a soundtrack.
That is an awesome video, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. I liked the French video too. There’s just nothing more dramatic than operations on a carrier deck. I never get tired of peeking into that world. Thanks so much for posting them.
Question: In the cut of the alt going nuts, at that rate of decent looks like you’d make a mess on deck.Is that rolling in on a target? The vids were on the LINCOLN and the WASHINGTON anybody know when?
Curt,
Thanks for the link to the Coral Sea website. I made two cruises on her-and have a few stories of my own.
Good to see some video of Attack Pilots being Attack Pilots, rather than focusing exclusively on their relatively minor collateral duty of self-escort…
