PeterGunn ... I not only remember the TV show, I remember the handsome alpha-type guy who played you ... Craig Stevens. He looked like a real person, not like the usual Hollywood type weenie. Whatever happened to him? Do you know?

Just reminiscing ...

OG, my concern with that portion of Barnett's pitch was that it seems to say, "Don't worry, it'll be OK. We're going to win in the end."

Which is as it may be, and fair enough. But in the interim, I'm a little concerned about the forces of non-interconnected reaction breaking up the china.

Barnett is underwhelmed by State's reaction, and thinks that their SysAdmin functions ought to be taken on by a tailored civil/military organization that works under the DoD, if I've read him correctly.

"Which is true I suppose in the calculus of cultural existentialism, but less true - from my perspective anyway - in the math of “are we more likely to find that a dirty bomb has been planted in New York, or Teheran and thousands of people have been killed in an afternoon” kind of a way."

Would you do me a favour and take a look at this, and perhaps, clear up its meaning for me?

I agree with your comment on the role of American exceptionalism. But I'm not sure that TPM would disagree completely. My take has been that there is a certain ambiguity between what he perceives as the effect of flattening the world...is it in one direction only?

On sysadmin...I had thought that TPM had been frankly displeased with the role played by the State Department. I don't think the failures of State can be lain upon the military branches. They're doing top notch work, but should sys/admin be a function of the military?

Nice post. Just wish I could get a better feel for the intended meaning of that one comment. Thanks.

fliterman...

Thank you for taking the time to clear that up. I'm happy you're invested in U.S. Companies; it wasn't clear from your earlier post in which companies in China your investments exist.

As far as political blather goes, I'm glad you don't wish to indulge yourself in "blather". Many of us don't feel that our political views fall in the "blather" category; in other words my blather may be your views and vice versa.

I'm happy to see you aren't interested in getting drawn into any more political disucssions on this site. After all, Major Mike has first call and you really have only one face to give.

By the way, if you remembered the TV show, you would know my alias is spelled with two "n's", PeterGunn.
