An Iraqi man’s curious penchant for hiding “stress relief” items nearly wrecked him:
An Iraqi immigrant faces deportation after triggering a security scare at Los Angeles International Airport when authorities found a suspicious device lodged in his body, officials said.
Fadhel Al-Maliki, 35, of Atlantic City, N.J., prompted the alert March 6 during a screening for a flight to Philadelphia when he tried to go through security with two objects in his rectum. The FBI said he told screeners the objects, a polished stone and a piece of metal, were used to fight stress.
That wasn’t enough to constitute a federal offense, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said.
Two questions, one for Al-Maliki, and the second for FBI spokeswoman Eimiller:
1) Dude, WTF?!?!
2) And as Taranto asks, exactly how many items is sufficient to constitute a federal offense?
“Wrecked him.”
Get it?
*Sigh*

Absolute best laugh of the week! Just effing amazing.

Holy Smoley.
Now I gotta go get something to clean off this monitor before the IT police go by!
I want this to be funny, and it is. But what is left out of the article you quote is the fact that he had a wire or wires running to the same storage area he was using for the magnet. It is clearly a test run. Can someone conceal a metallic object and some wires and board a plane? Hmmmm, let’s try it with a magnet. That way, if caught, he doesn’t get in much, if any trouble.
It’s a kind of a probe, if you will.
Yes, yes, I know, I made that crack on purpose.
“wrecked him? it damned near *KILLED* it!”
For guffaws, giggles, inadvertent beverage aspiration, prurient perverse twisted schadenfreude, this is as nothing compared to that business with the Israeli ambassador in El Salvador.
As I wrote in a comment to an earlier post, it really is important to act normal in public.
As if the original post from Lex wasn’t enough, we have to deal with this…

What I want to know is why the security people didn’t give this guy the bum’s rush…
He probably stiffed the cabbie that dropped him off and then took the offered advice literally.
