A Gathering of Eagles

Astute observers of the political scene will know that a gang of the usual suspects had planned a protest march yesterday at the nation’s capital. Some of them had planned a side trip to the Vietnam War memorial, and – based on their actions during a January rally in D.C., during which some protesters broke through a police cordon to vandalize the Capitol, deface the Navy memorial and reportedly spit at a wounded Iraq war veteran – another group of Americans exercising their rights of free speech and assembly met to make sure that, whatever else happened, the sacred ground around The Wall would not be profaned.

Ladies and gentlemen, please doff your caps to another group of heroes that had nothing to prove, but proved it anyway. Courtesy of of our very own b2:

Got there at 0715 and stayed until the Moons reached the Pentagon N parking lot. Bitter cold and windy but nothing remotely like my uncle faced at Chosin or my father faced in Bastogne.

Big turnout. My second demonstration ever. These people are as bad as they look on TV. Every kind of Communist, unionist, anarchist and stupidly informed you could imagine. Ever been across the Memorial Bridge abeam the Lincoln Monument? Well the choke Point was right thar and we had the hi-ground. Yes, in the morning we stood silent vigil but not there…As you know my pet peeve is Americans covering their faces bandit/Islamo Facist style and you can bet I did some yelling and challenging eye to eye with the cowards. I am hoarse today.

So young Lex, and so stupid. Most of them holding signs saying “we Support the Troops but—–insert” had a look of puzzlement when they saw Vets of their grandfathers age looking at ‘em in rage- 30 feet away.

The MSM won’t report it but we won yesterday Lex. We might not have the political will for Victory in this country of ours, but the troops, even the old ones always find a way to win tactically!

The better 1/2 had C-beef & cabbage upon arrival homebase and the pill games last night were outstanding. What a friggin day for an old fart.

b2

Proud of you, brother. All of you.

BZ, B2! I had not a doubt in the world that mindless drones could stand up to the moral outrage of real, honest to God, no BS Warriors.

They don’t have a clue, and will never understand St. Crispins Day. But B2, you and your brother warriors always will. Yes, you had the high ground.

BZ, b2! Tried to find something on TV about you folks yesterday, but there wasn’t much, of course. Had to wait until everyone got back & posted pics and vids on the web. Am so appreciative of all of you who braved the cold and wind and the “stench”. Thank you!

  • Michelle

    Out-standing-ing!

  • OldRetiredChief

Thank you. To you and the other warriors who were able to be there and defend our heritage and the memory of those who went before.
Thank you Sir, I am humbled.

    Shipmates,

It was a cold day that warmed many a heart. I don’y think that the ‘Eagles expected as many as showed. The NPS estimates some 30,000 veterans assembled, and I can tell you this much: The protesters were beyond puzzled. Many were showing signs of fear, or deep concern, because no matter where they went, there we were.

I was intervieweed by Ms. Ham of TownHall, and got to meet Michelle Malkin, and just to see so many brothers and sisters with whom I shared a common bond. Even got to personally meet the #2 of CodePink. After the police carted a bunch away, she came up to me and 2 others and claimed that we had slashed her tires. She demanded that we be arrested, but the police just smiled and suggested she be on her way. We’d been there for over 3 hours, hanging out on the corner of 21st and Constitution with some DC cops, so they were well aware that it wasn’t us. She got more than a tad irate, and the cops explained that, even HAD we slashed her tires, they couldn’t arrest us, since the cops hadn’t witnessed the alledged attack. Too bad.

One of us 3, who had mad actual encounters with her before asked her why it was that violence, vandalism and arrests followed wherever she went… she took the hint and sauntered off…..

Riding down was loooooog. We left midcoats Maine at about 7:30, and it was no more than 45mph till we got to Philadelphia. Cleared up after that and we hit DC about 9:35. Got in this AM about 6:30. We had a charter bus of 50 of us, and there were others who came down in van pools, etc, from up here.

Shipmates, there were veterans from all 50 states. Brothers and sisters came from Germany, Italy, and even one fellow from Japan…..

I was overwhelemed by the fellowship. Didn’t matter the age, the background, anything at all. It was a common bond of service and patriotism. I came close to tears meeting some of the Soldier’s Angels crew, going around and checking on fellows in wheelchairs, older comrades, handing oput water and energy bars, not asking a dime in return. Seeing so many of the Purple Heart wearers, so many in wheelchairs, with canes and crutches, stading there in that wind and bitter cold, to face down a cancer infecting our body politic.

The chants of “USA. USA>>>” where there, but quickly gave way to chants of “NEVER AGAIN..” I was overwhelmed.

The kids were being their typical adolescent selves: littering the place with their drink cups, torn up signs, broken sign poles, napkinhs, flyers, etc. Their entire routs and rally place was strewn with garbage, yet we policed ourselves and hauled off all our stuff.

These mis-guided, self-serving, and woe-fully clueless kids have a problem now: The adults are tired of their behovious, and have given notice that it will not be tolerated anymore.

Washington got a wakeup call as well: Veterans have had it, and can easily and quickly muster the sort of numbers that the anti-American/anarchist side can only dream of.

    “bout time.

    Respects,

  • Babs

Thank you so much, all of you that attended. Starting Friday morning Long Island was socked in with an ice storm. We were just able to get our car out today at noon.
So, in lieu of attending, I tuned into C-Span for the rally and LGF for the running commentary in the comments. I can tell you that I absolutely laughed my head off for a couple of hours.
On another level though the ANSWER rally was very troubling. As far as I could tell all the speakers were Marxists. The rally was more a U.N. gripe fest than anything else. Some chick from the Philippines, a man from Haiti, one from Guatemala, even some woman from Mexico. What this had to do with the war in Iraq is anyone’s guess.

    BZ B2 and AW1 Tim!

When L’Enfant originally designed the street layout of Washington D.C. he had just this kind of situation in mind. As a Frenchman he must have had first-hand experience of mobs and the damage they can do when unopposed. So the good guys “got thar firstest with the mostest” and prevented a guerilla theater “happening” from happening at all.

Take the high ground and hold it.

  • AW1 Tim, “Washington got a wakeup call as well: Veterans have had it, and can easily and quickly muster the sort of numbers that the anti-American/anarchist side can only dream of.”

Yup, that was my impression also. I think things are changing. I only hope congress has their collective heads out of their rear orifices. If not the change may be a surprise in 08. We’ll see.

Bravo to Tim and Badbob, and all who participated in the counter-protest! By all accounts you kept your bearing, completed the mission, and conducted yourself with great honor. I wish I could’ve been there with you all.

And Tim, your description of the Soldiers’ Angels touched my heart. I didn’t know they had plans to participate, and what a lovely way to do it! I’m so proud to be associated with them!

And I’m so honored to have people like you two as my fellow citizens who continue to serve our country. God bless you both.

  • Bill C

B2, For every negative word I wrote about you, mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
You have my admiration and thanks forever. BZ

Gee Lex. Sheeesh. What did Andy Warhol say?

I just want to say all of you Patriots that visit this blog were there in spirit with me, even you Skippy!

AW1: Glad to know I stood with you and that you came all the way from Maine! You’re a trooper! Did you run into the “Old Paratrooper”? What a character.

Snake- your boys were there especially..in force. I was humbled to stand with ‘em. One ol’Ranger from the Blue Ridge in particular.

Next time. There will be a next time..we’ll outnumber ‘em again. I pray you’re right CoRev.

    B2,

Do you mean the old fellow with the khaki jump uniform and the overseas cap? That guy was great! He had a brand-new made 1944 stype khaki jump uniform, fore-and-aft cap, and all his proper insignis on it. Looked like he’d come right out of a WWII color image, except for his age.

So many memories. Yeah, the Marines were there alright! Everywhere you turned the Corps was in sight, from patches to red jackets, ot was amazing. As I stood along the sidewalk, between the protesters and the assembly point, there were black and white veterans, fellows in wheelchairs, others with canes, many with the slightect of limps, many in great shape, and others showing the simple wear and tear of age, but all with that fire in their eyes. Didn’t matter who you were, where you came from, what your rank was or anything esle. What mattered was that you were there, and man, there were a LOT there.

I look forward to meeting you, and all my other brothers and sisters.

PS, Michelle Malkin has a photo of me and some other guys on the front page of her website. If you scroll down to the pic w/the fellow holding a sign that reads “Peace Through Superior Firepower”, I’m on the left of the image. Black jacket, white goatee and squadron ballcap w/crow and wings on it.

  • Wow wow wow – great to know that the legions of Lex were ably and admirably represented by B2 and AW1 Tim. Thank you both – and all those with you.

I know that a busload went down from my little tiny town in southeast CT – wish I could have been with them.

  • unkawill

Kris, you hit on the perfect title for us former “Lex Dudes” Lex’s Legionaries! I like it!

  • unkawill

Quite a “Goatee” ya got there AW1 Tim. Boy it sure looked cold.

  • GEO6

I have a lot to be proud of in my 33 years in uniform but I think I am proudest to be a member of the fraternity of the Brotherhood of Arms with you gents. I am humbled. All of you and a personal atta-boys to AW1 Tim and B2. Thanks.

  • Robin B.

Thank you for your service to our country – past and present – it is time we all stood up and said “No more”. And only those who truly paid their dues can legitimately say it, which is, no doubt, what had those idiots so aghast. Many thanks to all of you!

  • doorkeeper

    Thank you…..thank you…….thank you.
    tears…..
    Hugs for Tim and BadBob.

Had trouble keeping a dry eye reading the above comments…Mega kudos to AW 1 Tim and B-2. Best

PS,Pleased “my boys” were well represented…may-be next time I’ll be there…of course as a true “snake-eater” I could never devulge my identity.

PPS, RE the new format…quit grousing,be flexiable, adapt, deal with it and survive..it’s the American way.

  • RIck

Well done B2 and AW1 Tim. Wish I could have been there.

  • My daughter and I got there early too…viciously cold in the morning, but by ten or so the electricity in the air was palpable. The Vets were starting to realize the numbers that were showing up. It was a good day for an old squid.

The moonbats were outnumbered, shamed, and humiliated. I doubt they are used to people showing up in such numbers to disagree with them.

I’ve got some pictures on my site, including the Jane Fonda Memorial Porta-Potty. The majority wasn’t silent this past weekend.

  • Mark

    Good on ya B2, AW1 Tim, & GOE’s!!

  • Subsunk

God Bless you gents. I am so very proud of you guys. It was my stepfather’s birthday…. and my last weekend with my boy at home. He left for boot camp Monday.

We’ll never allow those crazy folks to end up winning. They aren’t worth your spit. Thank you for being there for the rest of us.

    Press on. To Victory.
