As any one of us might have plausibly claimed to know, Pakistan is one of the world’s true powerhouses in the sand-poundingly tedious game of cricket. So it was that cricket fans all over the US (*crickets*) were stunned to learn not only of the Pakistani national team’s inexplicable loss to Team Ireland – roughly the sporting equivalent of the Oakland Raiders losing to your local Pop Warner cheerleading squad (Pee Wee Midgets) – but equally horrified at the news of the murder in Jamaica of their coach, Bob Woolmer. Whom, we recently discovered, was until his death the cricket coach to the Pakistani national team.

With all this as backdrop, the most chilling news yet to fall upon the ear of a Pakistani batsman must be this:

Pakistan‚Äôs players have no reasons to fear a return home, according to team spokesman Pervez Mir…

Since their surprise exit from the tournament and the even more shocking murder of coach Bob Woolmer in his Jamaican hotel room, emotions have been running high in Pakistan.

However, Mir said the players had nothing to fear when they touch down in their homeland.

When your team spokesman tells you that you’ve got nothing to fear, going home? To Pakistan? It’s pretty much time to fear up.

It was good knowing you fellahs. Thanks for playing.
