"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones
"Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra"
"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche
"A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke
“You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”--General Sir Charles Napier

Lex,
Damn, Damn, and Double-Damn. The call I got from a friend says he didn’t make it, but we’ll all hold out hope until the official word comes out.
I hate it when the reality of the profession rears up and slaps you. One learns to accept the risks, but you never get used to the results. You never do.
Respects,
Almighty God, we remember this day before thee thy faithful servant, and we pray thee that, having opened to him the gates of larger life, thou wilt receive him more and more into thy joyful service; that he may win, with thee and thy servants everywhere, the eternal victory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Just returned to the house and heard the news.
Damn indeed.
My respects to the family and the community.
“…lord hear us when we lift our prayer, for those in peril in the air.”
I’ve lowered the flag outside my house to half-staff.
Damn!
God bless the family, the Team, and U.S. Navy.
Patrick
Thoughts, prayers and healing energy being sent to the families and the community at large.
My prayers go out to the families and friends of the pilot who was apparently lost. I also pray for the spectators and responders who had to witness and respond to this tragedy.
God Speed.
Amen and Amen. Father, a special blessing for the woman who loved him, and your presence and comfort for all those who grieve.
“They shall grow not old, as we who are left grow old; age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.”
Binyon, 1914.
I am in shock. If he attempted to guide that plane to a location less populated, then he is a true hero. My thoughts and prayers for the families and the community at large.
God bless.
What doorkeeper said. Every goodbye is potentially the last one. And one terrible day it is.
truly a tragedy…
Bird strike?
May He who calms the seas and causes the wild wind to cease it’s shrieking, be with the loved ones, friends, and fellow airmen of this valiant warrior. May God bless them all and give them peace everlasting.
There is a more recent report on CNN. His family was in the audience.
May his family and all who knew and loved him find comfort and support during this horrible time. All are in my prayers.
Latest (unofficial) report has the plane heading toward the Broad River before it went down; quite likely, as Therapist1 said, polit tried to get away from populated areas, knowing he couldn’t save the bird, trying to save lives on the ground. God be with him.
All such tragedies overpower me.
All such tragedies overpower me.
Godspeed, Commander,

Not for the first time, and not for the last, my sympathies to the pilots family and mates.
I’m so very sorry to hear that. Always a sinking feeling when you read those headlines.
For pilots, it’s something you live with, but it’s never pleasant when it’s one of your own, or a plane you’ve flown, or a squadron you’ve been part of.
My husband cried for a day after 9/11 – he was a 767 pilot and it hit home in a very personal way.
My prayers and wishes for the pilot’s family and friends, and for the Angels. They’re still the best and they will mourn but go on.
Extra shot of whiskey on the bar. God bless him.
Truly sad, especially if the man’s family was in the crowd. My sympathies to the team, the family, and the Navy air community.

My prayers and condolences to the family and friends of the pilot.
I just read an AP release dated 04/22 @ 0619 EDT that said the team was returning to Pensacola; an Angels’ spokesman was quoted as saying “We will regroup.”
I certainly hope so.
May God be with them all, especially their familes. It still hits close to home even though my husband hasn’t flown in years. All those scary thoughts are overwhelming — even now.
