At the MilBlog Conference. Or, if not there, then at The Carpool – a bar that’s just down the street a ways from the hotel, and unto which we severally went when the hotel closed us down at 2330.
Walk into the hotel and it’s the noise that gives it away – upstairs and to the left, it’s not like you need to ask for directions.
Got there about 45 minutes late and the reception was already in full swing. Met too many folks to mention by name on the fear of leaving someone out. Talked about matters great and small, it was great good fun. Still have no clue what I myself will talk about on the panel this afternoon.
Sometimes blogging is like that.
Update: Well, I finally showed up an hour and a half – taking a little heat from Those Who Came Before, by the way – only to find that the President hisself opened the ceremonies, by video, like.
And I missed it.
Update 2: Quote of the Morning (thus far) after a predictably thorough discussion of the fact-checking function of MilBlogs against the MSM – Anna Marie Cox, formerly of Wonkette, now a Time correspondent, steps up to the mike and says, “I’m from the mainstream media, and I’m here to help.”

Gee. Sounds like ‘Hook!
I’ll be “listening”.

Did AM revert to her Wonkette days and talk about B*tt S*x?
Good one, Kev
Excellent job by all concerned!
I saw you at the Milblog conf via the live feed on the net. I thought the Wired guy carried on for way too long… Basically, he hogged a half hour of your discussion attempting to justify the MSM (of which, he is a part). So happy when John cut him off! People in the chat claimed he once worked for Hillary and other Dems…
I watched you about half way through his rant. You were sitting there like a bump. I wondered what you were thinking!
His comments make Bill Roggio, Bill Ardolino, Michael Totten and Michael Yon out to be liars. They all have repeatedly said that MSM presence in hot zones is very thin. To hear the Wired guy you would think MSM reporters are out and about all over the place; that’s just not true. Bill A. posted footage of a Marine in Anbar recently that said an MSM reporter breezed through for 24-48 hours, came without even a sleeping bag, got some interviews and was off. When the Marine read the story he was furious as the reporter failed to describe the situation on the ground realistically… So, I pretty much resented the Wired guy and his comments.
On another note, it was very interesting to hear the sound of your voice after reading you for a few years. I have a sound in my mind and your voice wasn’t it! I had no idea you talked with a Virginian accent!
Thank you so much, and please thank your family as well, for making the effort to attend even if you only got a few minutes in the sun. I think you made some good points. I hope you got a chance to talk to Ward Carroll about publishing. Hopefully, he gave you some tips.
Gah! Kevin! That’s unfortunately the first thing I thought of when I read ‘formerly of Wonkette’. Her Mama must be so proud…
Lex:
Great to finally meet you, Eagle1, AW1 Tim, Curt et al today. Safe trip back home…

Another high point happened in the last few days in Arlington.
Besides meeting the humble guy who writes so well, the possibiities to have an effect on many, many things via the MilBlogs community, and not just as writers, but readers, too, all of y’all plan on being there next year. There, I warned you to begin saving your “loose change” for the trip/hotel/conference….so no whining 363 days from now…
The video feed from the POTUS is all over now, great seeing you again and holding up the good old USN:)
Nice meeting you; I’ve linked to you here: http://consul-at-arms.blogspot.com/2007/05/milblogger-conference-wrap-up.html
Isn’t that one of the three biggest lies?
1. Checks in the mail.
2. I won’t _____ in your _____.
3. I?

Darn, I really wish I could have been there…Maybe next year.
Casca- The consequences of your # 3 big lie are more in tune with a number #4 that some of Lex’s visitors may be familiar: “Winds are 5 knots gusting to 8 on the Drop Zone.”
What he DIDN’T mention is that he showed up with a PIZZA at 10am!
LMAO
