I do love me a person who is happy in their work:

THANK YOU–THANK YOU—THANK YOU!!! It’s been so long since I’ve seen a picture of anyone in the Military smiling. You do know how to make our day, Lex.

  • Babs

Do you think she uses tooth whitener? Inquiring minds want to know…

  • CPT J

Why, that’s a sighting of the rare Brit Bullpup Bird!

  • P-3 wife

She may be grinning, but her face is dirty and her helmet cover is worn. Looks like she deserves to be grinning to me!

  • unkawill

She is smiling, cause she is shooting from the moral high ground.

  • Purty toofies in purty face! What’s not to like?

  • Oh, Babs, ya never know, with digital images. I prefer to bask in the warm fuzziness of not being too critical, being kind of an xy type person. Ya know?

  • Zane

Umm, you guys never seen a photoshop before? This one’s not particularly well done, either, however much any of us may approve of the theme.

Every job is a self portrait of the person who did it. Autograph your work with excellence, young lady.

Squeeze that trigger carefully. And don’t miss.

Women in combat?…however toothsome… these fine ladies are someones daughter, sister, mother, wife… all smiles and such for the BS photo-op. What happens when the cameras are gone and the s**t hits the fan? Thankfully I’ll never know. I know I’m an old fart whose time at the tip of the spear was long ago… but women in combat, especially ground combat, is a concept whose time should never have come. Best

Oh, I don’t disagree with you on the military aspects, at least in principal. But it’s funny how a 360 degree threat sector can make previous notions of the combat/combat support dichotomy so anachronistic. You’ve no doubt got me beat on the chest candy, but so does Sgt. Leigh Ann Hester, who at the moment holds one more Silver Star than I do.

I think the whole “women with rifles” thing just satisfies some strange whimsy of mine. I admire a powerful woman, and the M-4 does carry with it a certain aura of capability.

    Prolly just me.

    Cap’n,

I also find it to be my favorite from the sci-fi genre. Lingerie & Laser Blasters…. doesn’t get any better than that.

    Respects,

  • P-3 wife

Well, I guess you guys can have your “girls with guns” as long as we girls get our “studs and guns” too, as far as a literary bent.

I think she looks well-satisfied that she is doing her best and is meeting the challenge. That’s what most of us want — to be able to rise to the challenges placed before us and meet them honorably.

And pratice makes perfect to do that.

Lex, Just viewed a flight of A-10s (Air-Guard) low over my office doing their usual early, early weekend thing… buzzing the cows up here in the mountains…one butt-ugly bird, but still a joy to behold and as mean as it looks.. glad it’s on our side.

Re, Women in combat,of course you’re correct about the 360 degree threat factor making it very likely that CSS types will see actual combat but thats the point. Should females be put in that position? I don’t think they should, but they are and so we have it and with it we have its results…the seemingly never ending, gut wrenching, network/cable footage of young soldiers and Marines, male and female, all with missing limbs, undergoing re-hab at Walter Reed and other military hospitals.

I know…I know… I must deal with it but I don’t have to agree with it. Best

  • Snake – A-10s are ugly, but man alive they are also sexy at the same time. Something about the cold hard calculated look of meanness about them…

  • Bomber Guy

I hope that this is a staged photo-op, if not the soldier’s superiors have trained her badly. The winning smile makes my heart beat faster, just as it would an enemy sniper!

You have to camouflage the flesh young lady, or you might as well be carrying a Gucci purse into combat.

To those who should have trained her better, get with the program!

  • unkawill

I sure loved to see A-10’s in my AO,(Fulda Gap)
back in my Combat Engineer days.

They kinda made you feel better about all those Soviet Armored Divisions on the other side of the curtain.

  • Michelle

You know, I really do like the pic. Photoshop, photo-op, whatever…

But I must say, apparently one must always remember to apply lipstick before grabbing their M-4 on the way out the door. Oh yeah, helmet and boots, too.

  • Mark

Whats going on here??? How come the “Lex Babes” aren’t screaming for “equal time”.

Snake Eater–I agree with you. Not that some women couldn’t do the job better than some men, as has been pointed out. They should have some degree of combat training if the possibility exists they could end up in a scrap due to the proximaty of their job. But for their job to be front line combatants, is a policy that will bite us sometime down the road. Guess I’m just a dino (or worse).
