Badge of Honor

Some folks have been banned in Boston.

Me? I was banned in China.

Prolly all that talk about democracy, etc. Rule of law.

Plane pr0n.

But now they’re letting me across the threshold again. I’m unbanned.

Maybe I need to talk a bit more about how the tender flower of democracy was rudely crushed by tanks at Tian an Men. Or the horrible damage that China has done to the environment, and to its own people by the relentless pursuit of profits by its ostensibly communist government. Or the riots in rural provinces when farmland is expropriated by the government without recompense. The growing social pressures in the urban areas between the haves and the have-nots.

Corruption in government, and a lack of transparency at the national level. Massive spending increases in defense accounts that don’t reflect any obvious peaceable purpose. The ideologically-based perversion of the movement towards democracy in Hong Kong.

You know: That sort of thing.

I want my badge back.

  • You’re banned from the USAF network al Al-Uedid if that’s any consolation. Of course they ban *everything* interesting including drudge.

  • Michelle

Gee Lex, you don’t like Chinese or something?
    ;-)

Someone at the NOC must have started reading Rhythms.

  • That’s weird.. why would I be banned? You can have my badge.

  • Quick! Do as much damage as you can! I checked mine and was surprised to find it blocked. Must have been the slam on Jimmy Carter. Or just maybe it was the comments from Lex…

  • I’m banned as well – goodness knows why!! Maybe my photography isn’t too their liking – being all about happy animals and lovely landscapes.

  • Must be some weird algorythm – My site’s banned and no one even reads it… :-) (Don’t bother, there isn’t anything there anyways.)

  • Well…here’s a head scratcher… I’m blocked on both the blogspot site and the prototype site (coming this summer…), most likely for taking the Chinese to task over the ASAT test, especially this one and yet I get hits from China on a regular basis (coastal and interior) and that ASAT article? It was linked to from one of the government space sites for almost three months.

    Inscrutable…

  • Don’t worry, you’re still blocked at STRAT…

  • EIP is blocked today but was visible back on April 3rd when I first blogged about the Great Firewall…

Like SJS, I think some of the animals are more equal than others, coz I still get quite a few hits from the PRC.

    Inscrutable, indeed.

You could also talk about how we “lost” China, gaining insight from Vinegar Joe Stillwell and others’ biographies.

But if you invoke the name of Sun Yat-Sen, all should be well.

  • Lex, I can’t believe no one’s said this yet….

“You don’t need no steenkin badges!”

  • You are not banned in Hickam….yet. That will probably happen when the Navy takes it over.

Yours is the only blog I can read at work here.

  • Huh. I’m banned too. Must be the fact that I’m #2 on Google’s search for Hooker pr0n. *sigh*

    The price we pay…

  • If you really want to learn about the mess the Chinese are making of my beloved Hong Kong, read this book. Hemlock has been describing “How Tung Chee Wa trashed Asia’s greatest city” for years.

Not that it would stop me from living there though-assuming I could gain gainful employment.

  • Banned in Beijing…

enrevanche is evidently blocked by the Great Firewall of China:…

  • MajMike

whatever you do, don’t mention that whole Boxer Rebellion thingie…

  • CPT J

    Skipper,

My work here is done [wink]

Great response from the Pack, at this rate you’ll get the BoH soon enough.

    Ding Hao! [Good News]

  • Blocked in Beijing – or Not?…

Maybe it was this…or this ….perhaps some few noses got out of joint over this ….but the end result is this: So are we feeling chastened? Regretful perhaps?
Naw, blogging means never having to say you’re sorry…

  • Glad to see you finally made the list.

    Banning is a good thing.

    Isn’t it?

They’ve got me blocked – but I can’t speak Chinese. So why would I care?

Oh wait…. that would be toward them. Hmmmm….

    Let me rethink this…

Skippy, this site is okay from the other side of Porter Gate – for now anyway. I don’t see any reason for it to suddenly change should those plans go through, but I’m really just a peon here so my common sense just isn’t.
