Because someone’s got to protect the Marines

And keep them on the straight and narrow.

Pretty much a full time job for the Department of the Navy.

Anyone up for a round of Gulf?

And by the way, welcome back IKE – Eight months at sea. Ouch.

    wow….great pic……

    dumb question, the link says:
Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.) has been relentless in his quest to rename the Department of the Navy as the Department of the Navy and Marine Corps.

    WHY?? Is there a point?

love ‘em both, but they’re different! And both look way cool in their uniforms.

Obviously, we’re due our fair share of seat time behind the SecNav’s desk. Mwahahahaha!

    Webb didn’t count.

My son (Navy Fire Control tech-in-training) tells me that “MARINE” stands for “My A$$ Rides In Navy Equipment”.

Don’t know how this contributes to the discussion, but it seemed somehow relevant… :)

    To Mark:

Well SOMEBODY needs to show them which end of the gun the bullet comes outta…

I know its hard to resist… turnabout and all that… but I suggest we not turn this thread into an opportunity to bash the United States Marine Corps…it just might offend the thinned skinned sensiblities of some of the fragile flowers that comment here…restraint… brothers and sisters…restraint. Best

  • Snake – you’ve been on quite a roll lately – glad to have you back in full fighting form.

Kris, I thought I was on your no comment crapolla list for getting on your case about NE…but maybe not.
Lots of good stuff comming my way to comment upon around here… that… the beautiful NE weather and my new best bud (he knows who he is) could be the reason. Best

Nice photo. Reminds me of a truly classic picture from WW2.

  • Snake – I don’t hold grudges honey, at least not around here. Besides, sometimes it’s just fun to watch you unwind without commenting.

And yes, gloriously gorgeous NE weather we are having right now, thought it’s a tad warm today.

With as much restraint as I can muster, this is just another typical action by a member of Congress. A lot of noise, no meaningful outcome. Unintended expenses.

Think about all the emblems. On podiums, buildings, ID cards, even images on websites. What will be spent to change them all?

And (delete-delete-delete) I have to ask, who really cares? Not me. Not any Marine I ever knew. NAVY got it’s missions, Marines got different, if related missions. Changing the name is pointless beyond my ability to express without cussing like an old Marine.

Note to Congress and Executive Branches: YOU HAVE A WAR ON YOUR HANDS! TIME TO FIGHT LIKE WE COULD LOSE! TIME TO BUILD BIG WEAPONS! RECRUIT BIG ARMY, NAVY, AIR FORCE AND MARINE CORPS AND GO KILL ENEMY UNTIL THEY STOP FIGHTING! NOT TIME TO SPEND TIME EFFORT AND THOUGHT ON STUPID, MEANINGLESS NAME CHANGES!

Talk about rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic…..

    ASM826, Very well said…Best

That was a great pic, Wolfwalker – thanks.

And ASM826, I second the sultan of snark: Well said.

    ASM826,
I agree, a lot of to do about nothing. Restraint noted ;-)

  • Jim Collins

But we have to rearrainge the chairs! For some reason the deck is starting to tilt and the chairs won’t stay where we have them.

    ASM826,

Tell us how you really feel ;)

But really, if Congress would only listen to that kind of common sense….
