Well, if I was living in the disaster that is Gaza, I might need water pipes to bring water to my house or neighborhood from some little mud hole so I didn’t die of dehydration.

Frankly, I’m torn between pity and anger.

But, it’s not like we couldn’t see it coming. It’s like one big gang war over there and has been for a long time. It’s just that Arafat was being fronted by the Europeans and US so he had the most money to spread around and buy people. He’s gone, so is most of the money (some of which he squirreled away in private accounts) and so is the power that made him able to control these groups.

Now Hamas is the most powerful with the most money. Obviously why we turned the spigot back on for the Abbas government. He needs money to buy back the gangs and provide them with weapons.

Now THAT is a long standing tradition in the Middle East.

Actually, from what I understand, looting of that nature is a long and respected tradition in the Arab culture.

It must be – they do it everywhere they can.

Well, the sensible people know where it’s safe. May their good sense spread to the rest, viral-like, so that those who value life and not glorify death will be the ones to seek safety with their neighbors.

Water pipes. They stole the water pipes.

Right at the top of my list of things to loot too.

Granted its probably to use the metal or plastic for something else. Regular people are desperate enough to steel water pipes.

I think that says more than just looting clothes and trinkets…

So, the greenhouses are destroyed, much of the infrastructure has been destroyed, the gov’t no longer exists, people are being murdered in the streets, anything of any value is now being looted. People are desperate to flee; lining up at the Egyptian and Israeli borders to get out.
What is going to happen to this piece of land?

Does Iran have the funds to arm and maintain a thugocracy in Gaza and, if so, to what end? Surely they can’t think that they will take out Israel via Gaza?

I understand that Iran is a powerful country but, this seems to be spreading it a bit too thin. They are now meddling in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. Can the people of Iran continue to support this type of reach?
