"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones
"Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra"
"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche
"A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke
“You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”--General Sir Charles Napier

My guess: Ensign Tim and his mom. The only reason is that it would take an infant pic to disguise Tim, since we’ve seen him as he is today in his very early twenties.
That’s the best I can come up with…
The wife and the son?
Being as how it’s father’s day, and all.
McLaughlin takes it.
Craig, that’s brilliant! I’m gonna have to think about it; I know I’ve seen old pics of her somewhere…
I haven`t been a long-time visitor, but this is rather easy. Therefor, I second Craig McLaughlin. Your lovely wife and your son; who appears somewhat startled in the photograph.
A very Happy Father`s Day, sir.
Veritas et Fidelis Semper
I don’t think that really looks like the way back pictures we’ve seen of Herself but then again, I ain’t got nothing better either…
Thought – is it Barb or Babs with the son in the Marines? Whichever is the right name for mom, that’s my vote!
Hey Lex ~ Happy Father’s Day!
Happy Father’s Day!
My guess, Miss Birdlegs and one really cute baby, maybe Ens Tim.
Michelle – I don’t have a son in the Marines.
Happy Father’s Day Lex. Hope you are getting white glove treatment by your adoring family.
I asked hubby what he wanted for his Father’s Day dinner. He told me “anything with gravy on it!” So, in goes the pork roast and haul out that bag of potatoes lurking in the bottom drawer of the frig.
Oh, I guess I can’t wait any longer – it’s the suspense or somthing: That’s our dear Babs and her own dear Tim, just as FbL intuited at the top of the post.
Might the mighty tyke be SNO? After all, it is Father’s Day, and a clue pic was delivered above. The age is about right, too.
The woman or relative in the pic could not be more lovely, that’s what I’m saying. Great pic, no matter what.

So Babs is Ens Tim’s mom?
Or a different Tim’s mom?
Oy, I get so confused…
Midshipman, midshipman, not Marine!
Darn, now I remember!
Maybe I’m getting some people confused in my mind, but I didn’t realize Ens Tim was Babs’ son.
Lex, Ens Tim isn’t the kid who first contacted you about flight school awhile back, is he? Are there two Ens Tims?
Nope, only one as far as I know (unless I have a doppleganger posting by the same name). And yes, Babs is my mom. And yes, I am in flight school (NFO school technically). Good guess up at the top FBL.
~Ens Tim
Fbl – You didn’t realize that Ens Tim was my son because we never said so before…
But, yes, I am terribly proud of Tim, and yes, he is my son.
I look at that photo and what goes through my mind is how full of wonder I was about the future. A little bit startled, a little bit apprehensive, but mostly curious. I have another photo with the same expression taken on the evening I graduated from High School.
I also look at that photio and see my big hand around the baby’s waist, holding him back, protecting him. I have since set him free and he protects me/us now…
Its a great picture Babs. You look great and he is a real cutie.
We may not have known quite who was who but one thing that has been clear since I’ve been at the good Captain’s blog is how proud you are of him. You have good reason to be.
So… looks like maybe FbL and I get to share the credit on this one? She picked out Ens Tim and I picked out Babs. We just didn’t know we were both right
Late to the game this weekend. But what a glorious picture and story – a mom & son as readers in these here parts. Excellent Babs & Ens Tim!!!
Babs, good try on the diversion, but you just couldn’t keep from saying what a cute baby Ens. Tim is/was, huh? Don’t blame you at all! Good pic!
Babs,
Know the feelin’. One of mine is just finishing up in the Blackhawk at FT Rucker.
All the best Ens Tim in your quest for your wings!

OK, My vote after careful and exhaustive analysis…TA…DA …Babs and Ens Tim. Best
PS, The eyes gave it away…hot damn…after all these years…I still got it.
