It’s still far too early to know the full intentions of the man who ran a car loaded with explosives and accelerants into a set of rubbish bins in central London last night, before running away. This was in the Haymarket district – a night club and theater district that would have been full of party goers at 0200, when the incident was reported. It is sheer speculation at this point to wonder what agenda the man pursued, for whom he worked and how serious and imminent his intent.
And yet the timing could not have been more clear, on the first fully day of Gordon Brown’s premiership. From this we can at least deduce the character of message:
“Our war was was not with Blair, it was with Britain.
“We are not interested in an accommodation, we seek your submission.
“We intend to violently shape the terms of our debate.
“You will not have breathing space.
“It is not over.”
Welcome to Number 10, Mr. Brown.
Update: At least two bombs now, and an “Islamic axis”, quickly followed by terror apologists in comments.

“I will stress to the Cabinet that the vigilance must be maintained over the next few days,” Brown said.
That seems like a VAST understatement. Vigilant over the next few “days”? How about for the rest of your term, Mr. Brown.
Timing is everything.
Lex, You nail the issue as usual. Rage Boy, Inc. is relentless.
You know how the left (aka the British media) are going to portray this : “No harm, no foul.” Just watch.
One would like to know Mr. Brown’s comment this morining when London police discovered and destroyed a nail bomb in central London.
The British lion has become a whimpering kitty.

The London news reminded me of this:

Latest count is up to 3 car bombs discovered. My God, those Brits are good at getting to these before they go off! (Mebbe Allah doesn’t WANT them to detonate???) Just think of all the people these bombs did not kill and maim. What a blessing.
Truly a blessing. Especially the fellow who removed the trigger before it could go off. The Brits are very good at finding these before they go off or even before they are executed at all. More power to them.
I just wonder how long til it starts happening over here.
Geez, I dunno P-3W: Looks a lot like they just got lucky. It’s good to be lucky – we used to say that it’s “better to be lucky than good.”
But luck is fickle, and you can’t always count on the good kind…
P-3W,
With no aspersion cast upon “special teams” (been on a few), it is the everyday patrol officer who is the pointy end. This case bears witness to this fact. Whether it is an active shooter, or a T on the move, it is the patrol officer (and more than likely a 5%er) aggressively pushing the star that usually is first in; first in discovery or first into action.
