In Iraq, extremist Sunni butchers explain away their use of suicide vests and car bombs on civilians by explaining that the Shia aren’t really Muslims. So it’s OK, to kill them.
What then to make of the news from Afghanistan today?
A suicide bomber targeted a NATO patrol in a marketplace filled with children Tuesday, killing 13 elementary school students and at least four other people.
Eight Dutch soldiers patrolling on foot — the apparent targets — and at least 35 Afghans were wounded in the bombing in southern Uruzgan province. The Taliban asserted responsibility for the attack, one of the deadliest in Afghanistan this year.
The Uruzgan province is a majority Pashtun province, and Pashtuns are principally Sunni. And, in case the subtlety is lost, these were school children.
This is the nature of the enemy. This is the face of those our quivering class would surrender the field to. Perhaps because of the way we cover the news.
The WaPo helpfully points out in this article – one ostensibly dedicated to news about the suicide bombing of school children, and literally nothing else – that “The United States and NATO have been criticized repeatedly by Afghan President Hamid Karzai for killing Afghan civilians during military operations.”
Which, though true, had nothing to do with the incident itself and wedged inelegantly into the narrative represents the worst kind of “yes, but” moral equivalency – a restricted moral vision that cannot distinguish between inadvertent tragedy and implacable and intentional barbarity.
With friends like these, how can we lose?

I think we may be very close to a destabilizing state of desensitivity.
I mean to be actually defending the Taliban? Because make no doubt, that is exactly what the article is doing here. There is no sugar coat to this. It’s not trying to say One has nothing to do with the other and in all things fair it should be two totally different articles.
It’s things like this that really get me going here, and I wonder how far is the American public willing to let things go before we really want to change the world for the better. Here we all are trying to be all eco-friendly and peace loving and all that, all the while the middle east is the wild west.
Not a first unfortunately Lex, June 15 they attacked a patrol at a girls school. 11 kids and a Dutch soldier named Private Timo Smeehuyzen killed.
Barbarous arseholes, if that weren’t already blatantly apparent.
I’m gonna be really ugly here and say that the American public in general has it’s collective head where the sun doesn’t shine in regard to terrorism in any shape or form. With their unused minds and their short attention spans, they’d much rather hear and think about Paris Hilton and maybe a freeway car chase (if it doesn’t go on too long). They can’t be bothered, and the MSM just feeds that attitude – whatever is easiest is the way to go. I really dread the terrible awakening!
MissBirdLegs,
YOU GO GIRL, When The Nuke’s detonates in New York, and elsewhere, it won’t be a single attack on one city/metropolitan area.
After this abomination, we will be forced to eradicate the Islamic religion, I fear that we will have to eliminate a couple of BILLION Souls.
Although, this should, if it comes to pass, mollify the Glowball warming/climate change/zero population/Environ Nazi crowd
They just don’t GET IT. Their reason for living, is to create a WORLD WIDE CALIPHATE, I for one, will Never, offer, My, Ass, to Allah.
