Everything falls apart

July 26th, 2007 · 18 Comments · GWOT, Military

The sad unravelling of Scott Thomas Beauchamp, Alpha Company, 1/18th, 2BCT, 1st Infantry Division.

Oh, and TNR as well.

It’s sad, actually. All the way around. It’s sad to think that a man might join the Army and go to war not to serve his country, nor even to get money for college, but as a way of furthering his writing career by smearing the service of those who fight¬†alongside him.

It’s sad to think that of all the stories coming out of Iraq and told by soldiers, TNR would choose a fabulist who stroked their cultural biases.

It’s sad to think that a company of line infantry is now under investigation because the Army will have to wrack them all to prove a negative. No matter how absurd the allegations.

It’s sad to think that with¬†Western civilization¬†locked in a mortal struggle with an implacable and murderous ideology, that nearly half of us would prefer not just to have us¬†tie one hand behind our backs, but actively conspire to¬†shove their heads up their asses while they’re at it.

Just sad.

    And pathetic.

Unfortunate that he will probably be identified by some of the major media outlets as a “lone voice of reason speaking above the din of murderous conformity.”

    Well said.

Why couldn’t this young person have told fibs like, “I am a _____, (Fill in your favorite heroic job), I can’t tell you what we do on missions, but they are terribly important.”

This is a hazard of instant communications, and I’m sure there is suffering in his little world.

    Just wandered over to http://ace.mu.nu/

Bad stuff. Good follow up on a nasty situation.

    Well stated, BZ.

“Scott Thomas” Meet Pvt. Scott Thomas Beauchamp…

That’s nice, but what about the veracity of what he wrote about? Well, TNR is taking its time in checking up on those stories. Hey, TNR, you’re supposed to fact check the stories before you run them - not after. If they’re sounding too good to be tr…

Can you spell ‘Jesse MacBeth,’ boys and girls?

I don’t know if I can spell it but I can smell it. to round this out, BadBrad, JAG officer commenting at Hotair contacted one of his buds through myspace:

Also, Got this from a guy who knows him in Iraq?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ he was pretty freaked out that I messaged him out of the blue (thought he was in trouble) and had no idea what the uproar was about or that this was such a ?¢‚Ǩ?ìbid deal?¢‚Ǩ¬ù. I guess he hasn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t read the latest installment of the ?¢‚Ǩ?ìfake but accurate?¢‚Ǩ¬ù literary style of Scott Thomas aka Scott Thomas.

His exact quote to me several months ago when i asked him about some of the things he wrote was. ?¢‚Ǩ¬ù just because it didn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t neccarly happen to us doesn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t mean it isn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t true?¢‚Ǩ¬ù.

    ahhhh?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ ?¢‚Ǩ?ìfake but accurate?¢‚Ǩ¬ù

And, shockingly, Turns out Private B. is NOT a top 80% soldier.

as for private beauchamp him self. he just received is 2 article 15 for going awol for three weeks up at BIAP after he returned from R&R. not a model soldier despite that i have considered him a friend up untill now.

Yea, I suspected something like this may not make him very popular right now?¢‚Ǩ¬¶

I won?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t have him wanting to mke things sound more intersting over here to make more people want read his writing reflect me in a negative light!

I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m shocked?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ shocked, to find an agenda at play here!

BadBrad on July 26, 2007 at 11:23 PM

I think that about seals the deal. TNR got “fake but accurate” drilled in the shorts by the husband/fiancee of one of their staffers. Or were complicit. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and say they did not follow the basic rules, “trust but verify”. Must have missed that last part in Journalism 101.

“… just because it didn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t necessarily happen to us doesn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t mean it isn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t true?¢‚Ǩ¬ù…”

Isn’t this how the media operates in general?

Lex said: “It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s sad to think that a man might join the Army and go to war not to serve his country, nor even to get money for college, but as a way of furthering his writing career by smearing the service of those who fight alongside him.”

Not sad - it should be criminal. At the very least I hope Mr. Accurate but Fake can afford to hire himself some serious protection. His fellow soldiers will all come home someday - and I’m sure after what they’ll go thru because of him, they’ll want to “discuss it with him”. You know, over a cozy drink in a dark alley.

For a guy who aspires to be a writer and poet he better not give up the day job. Ace and Hot Air have links but the stuff is just about unreadable.

This person (he ain’t a man) disgusts me to the core. He’s opportunistic, narcissistic, and a jerk, besides. He’s busy with bad creative writing projects and flimflamming the gullible, and smirking at the ones he’s defaming.

He’s a piece of cr@p. No wonder he’s had 2 Article 15 proceedings. He needs a third one that sends him elsewhere, with hard labor involved.

Can’t he just get a “blanket party”?

Nice roundup Kat. JD Johannes, Outside The Wire, and Jeff Emmanuel will be on O’Reilly discussing this tonight.

Two NJP’s are sufficient grounds for admin discharge. I’ll bet the decision has already been made, if not spoken. They just need to let the wheels grind for a bit, then pull the trigger on him. They may throw the third strike at him for good measure before he is shown the door.

    Beauchamp: Milbloggers Round-up…

One thing I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve noticed about Scott Beauchamp?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s defenders is that they are very careful not to disparage the Milbloggers–Beauchamp?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s strategically stupid slam on those who?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve never been to Iraq notwithstanding–whose doubt about Beauchamp?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s s…
