How’s your Friday been?

bravery.jpg

(h/t to Bruce J.)

Update: Vegas, baby? Considering the trouble I got myself in during the MilBlogger’s convention at Our Nation’s Capital, maybe I should give this one a pass.

And yet, there beckons the 15, arching its back seductively towards Sin City.

Groovy.

Up until now, pretty quiet. Our e-mail spam firewall (aka, the box that receives all the e-mail) just decided to quit working. Since we are an ISP, that’s a bit critical. Sigh… glad it’s my boss’ problem.

GREAT. My Navy brother just arrived home for R&R from his current posting in a not-so-nice east African location. Long trip made longer by aircraft problems and delays. Very happy to have him back for a short while.

It was quiet, until I tried to troubleshoot connectivity issues for a computer and a networked printer. Lo and behold — the room was routed to a new VLAN.

No wonder it can’t get Intertubes!

    (and I’m not nuts, either!)

Friday? Just another day on the exercise watchbill (Global Thunder 07) and more training/practice bleeding this weekend (0330L ONSTA time tomorrow)…but am contemplating something similar to GEO6 (though a couple of decades younger) next week.

My Friday? Hanging out with some amazing Soldiers’ Angels, getting the chance to tell people why Valour-IT is so important, and walking the circuit on San Antonio’s Riverwalk. Now sitting and eating a delicious vegetarian burrito in my DRY, air-conditioned hotel room on the 29th floor with a view of San Antonio and the sunset. Nice. :)

I’m planning a cross country to Marana. (Starting on my commercial license.)

  • 7 HomefrontSix // Aug 3, 2007 at 5:27 pm

Trouble? What trouble? I don’t recall any trouble. Just some missing car keys…

  • 8 Michelle // Aug 3, 2007 at 6:21 pm

    Why thanks for asking …
It seems like no one ever does!

Kind of long and kind of crappy.
Too much work. Not enough time. Cranky client… he’s been cranky for a good four weeks. Not sure exactly what that means.

But I’m sure it will get better. Now that I’m home.
And can check out my favourite websites. And hey, at least the picture tube only blew on one TV so I still have one more. Which means I might even get to watch some of that satellite TV we only got three days ago.

Boy, do I need a drink! What’s on tap?

  • 9 Michelle // Aug 3, 2007 at 6:27 pm

BTW that guy in your groovy video.
He’s not the same fella that got me in trouble before, is he?

Yeah. Oh yeah. He is. Should have known…. Its just been that kind of day….
Thanks Lex. So where is that drink?

Thank you for the link Lex.

You know Military.com is sponsoring a track for milbloggers and Andi is helping to organize it right?

Hope you can join us in Vegas. The first drink is on me.

It was a saucy California Merlot that stayed just this side of pert. Supper being concluded we have moved on to a chilled vodka/Starbucks coffee liquer combo. Bit of a bite, but that’s OK.

    I am not afraid.

  • 12 HomefrontSix // Aug 3, 2007 at 7:24 pm

Aren’t Matt and Chuck planning on attending? You’d be in good company. Good for what, I’m not sure ;)

I’d kill for a Vegas getaway right now but it’s not in the cards. Hope you can go!

As for my Friday…it wasn’t the highlight of the week. ‘Nuf said.

  • 13 Michelle // Aug 3, 2007 at 8:02 pm

Looks like you’ve been having an interesting day yourself. Mind if I join you with that coffee liquer combo?
But a little heavy on the vodka, if you please….

  • 14 lex // Aug 3, 2007 at 8:04 pm

I’m working on my second. And the coffee liqueur?

    It’s just for color.

    GEO6;

I got to fly that very model for a while about 35 years ago. Belonged to an A&P friend from Alaska. Great fun (and I could even afford to feed it.)

    Hope you get lucky…

  • 16 steveH // Aug 3, 2007 at 9:30 pm

Cooking saag tofu (neither of us can tolerate milk products, so no paneer) and *very* garlic whole wheat bread for tomorrow.

The salmon will have good company going down.

  • 17 SJBill // Aug 3, 2007 at 9:53 pm

    Lex,

Sum day, you’ll have to let me teach you how to roast your own Joe-beans. You will nevvah turn back to Charbucks. Yah-knoh, it makes a great coffee liqueur, too. It has to be fresh, like roasted in the past three-four days. Nahh-nahh na nahh-nahh.

Now, think I’ll have that special glass of bourbon.

Let’s see, work, lunch with a mate (mmm, calamari with thai salad), more work.

Home, Pizza and dinner with sister, bar with mate (long island iced tea, I was trying to convince him to get rid of his crazy French girlfriend after all) then onward to the Pub.

Of course it’s Saturday now ;)

Why Lex, I am most surprised. What’s wrong with a little Irish Mist with that coffee?

As for Navy in Las Vegas………am already looking forward to the posts.

Friday was great! Left work early to fly home to Ann Arbor to meet up with the family. We’re back together after 2 months living apart as we sell our MI house and relocate to SW WI. All that’s left is to sign the paperwork in MI and we’re on the way…woo hoo!!!

Big hugs from the kids…a good bottle of pinot shared on the couch with my better half…

    Definitely a good day.

Loved the penguin pic, BTW. Very funny…

SteveH- Thanks for the good wishes. I have been attracted to the classic ragwings of late because of good shortfield capability and econony. I am either going to get a Champ 7AC or a T-Craft. The J-3s are just overpriced. Of the three the T-Craft has the best performance for the Continental 65 horse. Only problem with the bird I am looking at is the paint scheme is butt ugly. But only the ladies buy for the color.

    Lex,
I just got to say, thanks for the posters. I have been lurking for a long time, and have colected them all. Tonight I replaced my browser?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s home page from Google to Neptunus Lex. One of these days I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ll buy you a beer. Keep up the great work!!!

Defended master’s thesis on Wednesday. My committee loved it. I was too tired to care much one way or the other. Finish up coursework, graduate on the 18th.

Looking forward to a two day cross country land nav exercise with the cadets. Something I can do in my sleep.

    Literally.

    What was the movie, Kris?

  • 25 badbob // Aug 5, 2007 at 6:23 am

    Babs,

Caught the CT ANG story. I’m a little late to this but 30++ years ago when I was an En-swine meself in training, I used to go “home” on a x-cntry in T-2/A-4 and land at BDL and park at the guard or sometimes Westover. My own little Ma used to pick me up! But we didn’t go to Foxwoods! Shiite Hot! Thanks for bringing that story up- I miss my Ma.

Lex- You can only go to Vegas if’n CINCW let’s you go to this first:

Hey Badbob - I’ll meet you there any time.
Actually, I didn’t even know the place existed until Thursday night… Not much of a gambler am I and, I claim my winnings to beginners luck. I never even played a slot machine before…
When Tim called and suggested the trip all the rooms were booked! Out in the middle of cornfield CT stands this house of depravity and all rooms are booked!!! How could it be?
I scored us on a cancellation and the rest is history!
We had such a great weekend.

Cornfield, CT Babs? Hey, you must mean Colchester, CT! LOL. Finest sweet corn in the country.
