"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones
"Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra"
"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche
"A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke
“You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”--General Sir Charles Napier

I was on the bridge of a RO/RO ship during a very similar exercise. It was a life changing moment for me. I knew they might be coming sometime during a 48 hour window. But, I did not comprehend, how suddenly they could appear from out of nowhere, and have control of the ship. So, while I was sooo scared, lying on the deck like everyone else, I was also sooo proud at the same time….that such men were on our side. I hated them for making men I thought were strong, whimper like babies, and I loved them for the same reason. Jumbled feelings.
“Compliant?” Um, not.
“All right, ALL RIGHT!!! The geedunk is re-opened effective IMMEDIATELY!!! OWWW!!! That HURTS!!”
Moral: Never deprive armed, desperate men of their ice cream…just don’t.
I hit the link and re-read the Bones tales. Each of his (mis)adventures is humorous, but you guys throwing him to the Marines struck me all over again as one of the funniest things I’ve read. Those Marines… As I type that I brush a toast crumb off the faded Bulldog inked on my forearm. Once upon a time we really lived the life, didn’t we? LOL.
Yeah … no way that’s a compliant boarding, unless they’re joking for the camera. Not supposed to put people on the deck and point weapons at them if they’re cooperating, right? Of course, you could insert a joke or two here about the people that sign up for VBSS teams …
What’s the Captain of a United States’ warship doing wearing a convict,or Marine, or cop, or dang near skinhead haircut?
I really don’t trust *anybody* who looks like he doesn’t need to own a comb.
Ok, short enough; the enemy can’t grab yer hair while grappling, but is that realistic, or fashion?
Myself, I get out the scissors when my hair is long enough to grab, and getting on my nerves. I cut it short enough to be out of the way, but long enough to save my pale tender scalp from the actinic rays of the Sun. Then I wait a month or so, and do it again. Somewhere in between those times it might look ok to other people. I really don’t care.
Anyone who voluntarily keeps up a buzz cut, with barber-shop visits once a week, needs to do some ‘splainin’, methinks.
My great granddaddies knew better, and grew lotsa beards and hair when killin’ yankees, who also had lotsa beards and hair.
I hate most modern fashions
That pic brings out a memory. Years ago, when I was at C2F, we had a boat takedown off the Vacapes that went flawlessly..well sort of.
The USCG auxiliary that was supposed to be at point x never made it (and were never invited to any future Fleetex/JTFEX “Bud” Flannagan presided over again); however, a similar vessel was mistakenly spotted by our SEAls and they promptly infiled, snuck on deck the moving vessel, “took over” and professionally zip-tied/duct-taped both the Skipper and his wife, a dentist as I remember, from Delaware or thereabouts!
I can tell ya…the R.A. that ensued was monumental!

Badbob, I would like to think that the sailors who did that are looking forward to getting out of prison some time in the next fifty years, but I’ll bet they didn’t spend a single minute in custody.
They needed to die on the spot for what they did, like any other pirates.
That the owners of the yacht were not prepared or trained to give them what they deserved does not mean that those pirates didn’t deserve a painful, lingering death.
News of US goobermint employees being even slightly rude to US citizens makes me feel the need to go outside, take ten deep breaths and run around the house etc. to avoid getting really, really angry.
Owhell, this has been going on since the Lincoln administration.
re “those pirates didn?
re “those pirates didn’t deserve a painful, lingering death.”
It’s called a “mistake”, JTG. I am sure the US government was sued and paid out. Prison? For SEALS doing their job in an exercise w Notice to Mariners warning small boats to stay away?
Hardly.
BTW- Now that I am retired and pretty much-unaccountable- I can confirm- “Shoot does happen”.
JTG, I heartily recommend you lay off the catalyst BudLite and up your friggin lithium dose to keep your pie-hole from spewing invective!
