I’m past questioning anyone’s patriotism. Over at the Huffington Post, blogger Martin Lewis writes an open letter asking for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs to relieve the President of his constitutional authority as commander-in-chief:
General Pace – you have the power to fulfill your responsibility to protect the troops under your command. Indeed you have an obligation to do so.
You can relieve the President of his command.
Not of his Presidency. But of his military role as Commander-In-Chief.
You simply invoke the Uniform Code Of Military Justice.
Umm. No. We don’t get to “simply” do that. You don’t really want us to get in the swing of deciding who ought, and ought not be allowed to exercise civilian control of the military. It’s lunacy to recommend it. I don’t mean “lunacy” like “that’s stupid,” although, yeah: It is.
I mean lunacy like “that’s crazy.” Certifiably. Off the hook. Jibbering. Tending towards the straight jacket.
And, yes. Yes this would be a good time to step away from the keyboard. And up your meds.
Ya’ kook.

Lex:
I guess it would help if any of these yin-yangs would bother to read the Constitution, or take a basic civics class.
For a shorter and more concisely expressed version, I’d also suggest that this guy watch the scene in “Flight of the Intruder” where Fred Thompson, as the presiding officer, lectures Grafton and Cole about why military people can’t freelance.
Actually, this nimrod probably doesn’t even have the patience or attention span for that.
rpl beat me to it. I was about to write something like, “B-b-but, it’s right there in the [insert Army Creole adjectives here] Constitution!!!111ZOMG!”
Never forget that these people are no different than any tyrants that ever existed. They are not opposed to government wielding power; they simply want the reigns to it.
That is also why they want a “growing” Constitution. They want a wax nose that fits their intentions.
“Ya?
“Ya’ kook.” Hehe…Thanks for the chuckle – on the upside it’s good to shine the light on fanatics. Maybe he can take M Moore’s seat at the next DNC Convention. He’s starting down the same “path to dialogue”.
Shipmates,
Correct me if I am wrong here, but doesn’t the advocay of a coup amount to treason? In wartime, doesn’t that also qualify for the death penalty?
So howcome the Feds aren’t all over this idiot’s (and his supporters. Have you READ the comments there? sheeeshhhh.) case?
At the very least, this fellow needs to be made an example of to quell other idiots from advocating the same thing. Eventually, they might find a few actually willing to try this crap, and then there will REALLY be h@ll to pay. Best to stop it with a full-force body slam and takedown now, to reenforce the apparently missed lessons about the Constitution and basic civics, etc.
Respects,
I registered just so I could post in the comments at Huffington yesterday.
So, do ya think that this guy would be happy to arrest Pr. Bush? And then what, hand power to Vice President Dick Cheney? I don’t think he’d be happy with the outcome of that, either. Nope, I think his idea for the coup is to put a nice socialist in power.
I would then expect show trials and public executions, martial law, suspension of civil liberties, starting with the 2nd amendment, but followed quickly by the 1st, the 4th, and the 6th.
It would result in schism and the formation of 3 or 4 smaller countries. There would be no choice but to push the reset button on the whole mess.
But, see, that’s his vision, ASM826. His vision would allow him to just put into place all those who would do the right thing, according to him, that is.
These dumb schmucks don’t have a clue what they are actually instigating. When the Secret Service et al show up at his door, he’ll be so surprised at how he could be so misunderstood and all.
It boggles the mind, it does.
Definitely, a kook.
If only it were that easy, we could have been rid of WJC in about 12-14 days.
N
PS Gray, I’ve never heard the term “wax nose” but I don’t think I like it. I’m sensative that way.
Shades of “7 Days in May”, rpl. Kook, dumb schmuck, stupid, etc. are much too soft! I remember watching that movie and feeling the terror of what this rebel is suggesting.
I agree, Tim, this is just as much a case of TREASON as it was for Burt Lancaster in “7 Days”!!!
I have no words. None.
I don’t think it’s treason – Lewis is, I think, a UK national. Sedition, now…
Re: treason/sedition… It seems he’s gotten a whiff of sanity. He now claims it was “satire.” Ummm… sure… I buy that… NOT!
Satire is the refuge of the man who made a claim on behalf of everybody and, when asked to step forward, finds himself alone.
I thought it was funny that he thought a General Courts Martial was conducted by generals.
AW-1 it is not really treason. I mean he did not say relieve him of the Presidency, just [I mean like] the powers that define the office. OMG!!!!!!! GGGGGGrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
I am going home and having a drink just so my head does not literally explode.
Will someone please get Mr. Lewis’s prescription refilled? I think it’s Lithium. In the mean time there’s some Democrat Congresscritter in his hole in DC asking “Can he do that? Hmmmmm”.
MaxDamage,
Hope you don’t mind, but I used your brilliant quote as part of my response to Mr. Lewis. Mad props all around.
