Well, I guess that explains how the 72 virgins got to heaven

At least in Southern Afghanistan. Turns out the old biddies die of natural causes with their virtue intact since the Taliban boyz accustomed to ruling the roost down Kanduhar way are, you know: Teh ghey.

The fact that Taliban militants‚Äô spare time involves sodomizing young boys should by no means be any kind of surprise or eyebrow raiser. That a mass pathology such as this occurs in a culture which demonizes the female and her sexuality — and puts her out of mind and sight — is only to be expected. To be sure, it is a simple given that the religious male fanatic who flies into a violent rage even at the thought of an exposed woman‚Äôs ankle will also be, in some other dysfunctional and dark secret compartment of his fractured life, the person who leads some poor helpless young boy into his private chambers.

Reached by satellite phone in in the transborder region, Taliban leader Mullah Omar denied being ghey, insisting that he “just had a wide stance.”

Update: You know, not for nothing? But it kind of puts this whole thing in context, doesn’t it?

Hehe…I can appreciate that view Lex, being Georgia born. But I don’t think my antecedents in the 120th NY and 2d Minn would concede the point.

Or maybe he meant that the “peculiar” or “domestic institutions” were conquered from within due to the Union army literally being in the Old Dominion, and elsewhere down south. That’s for the historians…

Going back to original thread, one can only hope that the arrival of instant global communication, the internet, etc., (thanks Al) can help empower oppressed people in such areas and drag themselves out of the 12th century. Well, maybe not for Rage Boy above, but for the less fanatic and oppressed.

    Lex,

My direct ancestors were with Hood in the 4th Texas, and others in my family were slave owners. they were from Georgia dn Alabama, and to this day, there are descendants of those slaves who share my last name. It’s an interesting conversation, to say the least.

Having said that, the slaves in the south were unable to revolt, unable to change the status quo, because they, like the women of Islam, had no power at all. Their only choice was to continue as slave, or to attempt to deny their masters their use by either running away, or by injuring themselves so badly as to cripple themselves. Not a great bunch of choices.

The women of islam have about the same choices. For the very life of me I cannot understand why WE can see this problem for what it is, and yet those who claim to speak for women’s rights refuse to address the issue. Where is NOW? Where is Gloria? Where is Betty? Where are the mobs of outraged American women marching and piqueting on behalf of the their sisters?

Well, I suspect that everything you want to know about them was answered by nancy pelosi when she donned a headscarf and went to see the dictator of Syria.

Unless and until we alledgedly civilized folks decide to act on behalf of the women of Islam, nothing will be done.

    It really is that simple.

AW – Tell you a true story. On the one year anniversary of our invasion of Iraq I was involved with a group called Protest Warrior. Basically, we had sarcastic signs (that the less intellectually endowed were not able to discern) and we would crash protest marches, marching right along with all the nuts!
During this particular march I chose a sign that had a picture of Iraqi girls on it and the message was “freeing Iraqi girls, its costing too much!” At the time you might remember that there was a big debate about the cost of the war in terms of dollars.
So anyway, there I am marching along. I watched one of my fellow Protest Warriors get choked until he dropped to his knees by one of the peacenics. Needless to say, this made me a bit tense when a young man came up to me and asked me what my sign meant. I told him I was a feminist and I believed in women’s rights. I believe that every famale has a right to an education and a career if she so wishes. He seemed to like that and left me alone. Unfortunately, a few minutes later someone with a few drops more testosterone came up to me and threatened to beat the crap out of me. A scuffle ensued and I was pulled out of the march and placed in a safe pen by NY’s finest…

So, where are the feminists? We are here, you just don’t recognize us!

BTW, I also faced off against the NYCLU during the RNC in NY. I was in charge of the HQ for this event. They called the cops in advance and brought along a film crew to document my being arrested (no joke!) because of “hate signs”. You should have seen the veins on the NYCLU guy’s head bulge out when he saw the sign that said “The ACLU doesn’t hate religion, just Christianity”. Too bad for him, I had a bunch of Navy gear on and the cops wouldn’t go for it! I LOVE the NYPD!

    Babs,

heh, I, too, am a member of Protest Warrior. We show up for the rallies that always happen when ships are launched at Bath Iron Works.

    Similar situation. TINS ALERT!!!

The ANSWER commies always show up on the same spot, and their leader/controller types wear red berets for identification. I, and several assistants, stationed ourselves there ahead of time, and upon seeing them arrive, went into our shtick.

Using our best southern accents, we enquired of the ANSWER types “are y’all here for the protest to stop Bush’s jew-backed oil war?” they looked at us and replied that, well, yes they were here to stop the Zionist elements forcing the war upon the ‘poor’ Iraqis, etc.

We responded to the effect that “The Grand Kleagle told us to bring a bunch o’ the boys here to stand in solidarity with you. We’ve got about 200 Klansmen coming up to help you folks out”!

Boy, you shoild’ve seen them blanch. The color just bled out of their faces at the thought of several bus loads of Klansmen coming along to support them. We continued the shtick with “But aren’t you also against the jews?”, etc. They (ANSWER commies, etc) MOVED their entire rally about 200 yards further up the street to get away from us. :)

We had an absolutely wonderful time. A couple of the local cops sauntered over to ask what we had said to them, and when we told him I though he would bust a gut laughing.

Seriously, it’s truly sad to think that we not only have to do the Nation’s business, but also the work that liberals OUGHT to be doing.

    Babs, keep up the fight!

    Respects,

  • Babs

AW – You live in Bath ME? I have literally blown through there dozens of times on my way to visit my folks in Castine. Rt. 2 is it? That’s where the fun begins, two hours of one lane road and fog… We used to always stop at the Dunkin donuts right at the intersection in Bath. Jack it up with donuts and coffee for the home stretch…

  • AW1 Tim

    Babs,

Yup…. Bath. Literally across the street from the Iron Works. I get a ringside seat for all the loonies when they show up, so several years back, I decided to join in the fun.

    Route 1, however.

And Dunkin Donuts coffee beats the snot outta anything from Seattle.

    Respects,

  • Babs,

No wonder I like ya. Must be a Maine girl.

  • Bath? Castine? Stomping grounds for me as well – on the way up to Boothbay Harbor or Bar Harbor for YEARS every autumn. My mom now lives in Belfast, so we don’t do the coastal route much anymore. Takes to darn long. Go Maine!!!

AW1 Tim: I agree that it’s going to take some kind of outside force to liberate the women of Islam. But let’s face it – that’s a MUCH bigger slice of the world pie than stomping out slavery in the southern states. Given how ingrained the Muslim practice of subjugating their women is – spreading across continents – I do have to wonder what KIND of outside force will it take to free them? And if someone does somehow manage to do it, will those women know what to do next?

Because I submit that after 2,000 years of gender tyranny I don’t know that Muslim women will know what to do with their freedom. They will need help navigating a life filled with choices and decisions they’ve never had to make, in their entire cultural history. How long will the outside force responsible for their liberation need to remain involved to usher them to the next stage of their development? Talk about a long term commitment to women all over the world…

Kris, your concern is obviously heartfelt; my own experiences with women in SWA & ME (Bedouin & Arab)is that they are 1) the furthest thing from naive and 2) they will exploit to the fullest opportunities for themselves and their children. One might query the American females in burka you can meet in the bazaars in Daharan & Riyadh,S.A. who’ve married muslim men. Some men are good & some bad, even in Islam. I had an interesting chat with an attractive & articulate Kuwaiti in smart black cocktail dress on mine warfare and her concerns about returning with her children to an area being “deactivated” – takes years btw. All this while her husband in traditional dress tried to explain in very poor english how the “damned Iraqis” had stolen his red Trans Am. Very similar to conversations you hear in other GEOs in like circumstances(and yes we ignored his rants and I don’t think he had any idea what I and his wife and I had spoken about). Purely anecdotal of course, and I’ve spoken with wives of Wahabists whose husbands resented it (or appeared to because I hadn’t spoken to them first), but things went fine. Young guys & gals in Dubai know how to contact each other via cell phones and know how to play the game. I got the impression that they have a more realistic view of us than we do of them. I think the extremists (goat men of mars in the article) could well be compared to the view many perceive of the Scotch Irish in the hollers of east Tenn for example. And their distaff are not so naive either. As a female of 30yrs aquaintance put it to me once, “Sisterhood in the so-called modern world makes a mockery of woman and is purely exploitative.” Others may see a glimpse of that too.

First, glad to have all of you fellow Mainiacs in one place. See, we who produced the 20th Maine have long since forgave and forgot.

Tom G, very valid points. The women aren’t mice, they have their own power structures and ways of playing the game, most of which are invisible to any Westerner, and especially Western men. Within the boundaries assigned to them, Arab women are as aggressive and rapacious as any Hollywood producer or Wall Street lawyer, the skirt-wearing kind, that is. Within the Islamic world, an Arab woman is not a Malay woman, and neither are Pashtu or Punjabi women. However, I still agree with Lex that the single most destructive force that could be unleashed on our foes would be their own women, if only there was a sufficient detonator.
