Turns out there actually was something rotten in the state Denmark, but it had very little to do with Helsing??r:
Danish police on Tuesday say they have foiled a possible terror attack on the nation’s capital Copenhagen. Members of Denmark’s intelligence agency PET took into custody eight Islamic militants believed to have links to the terrorist group al-Qaida. The arrests were made in separate raids at 2 a.m. following an extended surveillance operation.
According to PET head Jakob Sharf, six of the suspects are Danish citizens. “With the arrests, we have prevented a terror attack,” Sharf told reporters. “Those arrested are militant Islamists with a connection to a leading al-Qaida person.”
Denmark was an original member of the coalition of the willing in Iraq, but has since reduced their military presence to a token support detachment and embassy/consular guards. Any desire by Qaedist-allied jihadis to attack civilians in Copenhagen must be seen therefore in the light of Islamist ire at “Mohammed” cartoons and Western notions about the right to free speech.
Between the two positions there can be no middle ground, no compromise. We can pretend, if we choose to, that all of this will go away in time if we merely make concessions at home and abroad.
Our foe operates under no such illusion.
Update: Once again, the children of Israel are the canaries in the coal mine of Western Civilization -
Hatred of Jews has reached new heights in Europe and many points south and east of the old continent. Last year I chaired a blue-ribbon committee of British parliamentarians, including former ministers and a party leader, that examined the problem of anti-Semitism in Britain. None of us are Jewish or active in the unending debates on the Israeli-Palestinian question.
Our report showed a pattern of fear among a small number of British citizens — there are around 300,000 Jews in Britain, of whom about a third are observant — that is not acceptable in a modern democracy. Synagogues attacked. Jewish schoolboys jostled on public transportation. Rabbis punched and knifed. British Jews feeling compelled to raise millions to provide private security for their weddings and community events. On campuses, militant anti-Jewish students fueled by Islamist or far-left hate seeking to prevent Jewish students from expressing their opinions.
More worrisome was what we described as anti-Jewish discourse, a mood and tone whenever Jews are discussed, whether in the media, at universities, among the liberal media elite or at dinner parties of modish London. To express any support for Israel or any feeling for the right of a Jewish state to exist produces denunciation, even contempt.
Ruth 1:16-17

I don’t believe that this is a coincidence with the increased Muslim presence in Britain.
Cap’n,
Interesting to note both Jew and Muslim share the same father in Abraham (Ishmail and Isaac). Thus, to a certain extent, the issue of anti-Semitism affects both Jew and Muslim. The fascinating aspect is the manner in which each side’s society developed over time.
Your characterization of the Children of Israel as ‘Canaries in the Coal Mine’ may be apt. I respectfully submit a more suitable example would be that of a Yorkshire Terrier or Daschund. Big dogs, little bodies who know no fear.
The barbarians are already inside the gates, Therapist1, and have willing accomplices.

Lex, interesting use of the Ruth passage – does it have something to do with this portion?
“thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God”
This may be an unpopular opinion, but it is mine nonetheless. I believe that this war is far more than a few “radicals” who have hijacked a “peaceful religion”. I believe that this is first and foremost a religious war, and secondly a war that will define how we in the west live out the next century.
Will we live it out in submission to the forces of Islamofacism, or will we stand up for freedom? I choose freedom, and will do everything in my power to stop anyone who stands in the way of that lifestyle.

I was in Copenhagen last year about this time. My wife and I were with a tourist group waiting to take a tour of Copenhagen by boat. (Copenhagen is riddled with canals and waterways.)
I noticed two young Muslim men seeming to be fishing near where our group (about 200 people) was lined up. Looking closely at the two I realized that all their gear was brand new and they showed little evidence of expertise in it’s use. They seemed much more interested in surveying the nearby cruise ship and the tourist venue on the dock. They had a large, canvas bag sitting outside their van, seemingly to no purpose. (Hold their catch? Filled with explosives? Or?) I could not help but wonder why these “fishermen” were where they were. It crossed my mind that they could be surveying a location for a future attack on a group of tourists or a cruise ship.
Interestingly, a few minutes before our tour got under way, a couple of policemen approached the two men and appeared to be asking them what they were doing. I was, being the hyper- suspicious type that I am, happy to see that happen.
This article about the arrest of some Danish Muslim terrorist suspects certainly triggered the memory of that incident.
Jimmy J – I have also been in situations like you describe. Hairs on the back of the neck… up.
It is because of these experiences that I think we will need to be hit again big time for something to change. I hate to say it but, I think it is true. God Bless the sheepdogs….
