Look at the bright side, General

1600 years ago, senatorial “character assassination” had a greatly more ominous meaning:

Chalons marked one of the last great victories as the Roman Empire was gasping its final breaths, and (General Flavius) Aetius viewed as one of its greatest military commanders. For his effort, he returned to Rome three years later where he was met with an Emperor threatened by Aetius

  • What are the odds from Jimmy the Greek?

Probably already well in favor of Dave…so not like we could make a lot on the “confrontation.”

“in a stand-up fight between Dave and Harry, my money is on the guy in ACUs.”

If Dave could get a stand up fight of course.

It’s tough to watch your back with a 360 degree ring of scumbags trying desperately to stick a knife in it.

Yeah, but if Harry can bring his peeps, why can’t Dave? And Dave’s peeps are much, MUCH better at fighting than Harry’s are.

Harry and Nancy are on their way to the dustbin of history. Hopefully, with Moveon and dailyKos beside them when the leftists / liberals open their eyes and realize that they have more in common with Osama than the rest of America.

(Hey ~ the ad for me wants me to click here to meet military singles … what the heck? You trying to break up marriages now, Lex? Just because we Lex babes tease you a little bit??)

  • From what I know of General Petraeus, I have no doubt that he will chew up Harry Reid and his ilk and spit them out without even breaking a sweat. The man, though he is many things, is not weak.

What? Teasing?? You mean we were just…

Oh. Oh yeah. Right. Teasing. That’s the ticket!

Yeah, like she said. We were just teasing you Lex … yeah…teasing.

    Oops!
That comment went in the wrong spot.
    It clearly belonged SOMEWHERE ELSE!!

Hey P3-W… Which ad? Where do I click? Help a sister out!

  • P-3W

Babs, it was an ad beneath the comments ~ the ads seem to vary and change, so who knows how or why it’ll show up again.

    Good luck with that!

Oh gosh, I just saw it… “Meet Military Singles Today!” USMilitarySingles.com.
    I thought you were kidding!

It’s pretty much a constant through history. From Athens to us, every general has faced assassination, whether of person or credibility. If we didn’t have to worry that our best honorable men were still subject to the accusations of lesser creatures, we would be an advanced civilization indeed.

  • If the average American was paying attention today (which I kinda doubt), surely – surely, they saw the difference between honorable men and petty politicians.

surely, they saw the difference between honorable men and petty politicians.

Had that been the case all along, the current climate would not be dripping with acrimony….

That’s the truly sad part in this important drama.

    Cap’n,

I guess by now most of your readers think I have a low opinion of politics in general and Congress in specifics. I do, going all the way back to the Socialist Peanut Farmer who made sure the Navy didn’t have enough fuel for ships to get out and train. We’ll not mention the druggies we got for sailors.

That said, even if GEN Patreus wipes the floor of the Senate Interrogation Room with Harry Reid’s toupee, the politicians will still call it a victory for their side. Why? They know how to make sparkling sound bites for the newsies while the General simply answers their inane, super-inflated ego based questions.

It is certainly difficult to look at yourself in the mirror every morning, shave your face while telling yourself that it is your job, nay, your DUTY, to stand in the front of the line and carry arms to defend millions of Americans who are represented by people who are calling for your scalp, and calling you, in very unveiled terms, a Liar.

Senators and Representatives alike command less and less respect from me for their comments regarding GEN Petraeus, (and for that matter, GEN Casey, LGEN Sanchez, GEN Franks, GEN Abizaid, LGEN Mattis, et al, as well as Donald Rumsfeld, George Bush, Condoleeza Rice, Colin Powell, etc…) and their posturing that they know better what is good for America from a military, or even a political perspective, than GEN Petraeus and the silent American people who want to win and want the war over with the correct outcome.

Harry is a wimp and a liar who isn’t fit to wash the General’s backside. My money is on the Man who does his Duty, despite the naysaying of morons and dwarfs of the public who can’t pour piss out of a boot with the directions on the heel and a hole in the toe.

Press on, Gen Petraeus. It takes a Real Man to keep doing his duty when everyone else says the job can’t be done.

How surprising to them it will be when he does it.

Harry Reid and his ilk make Neville Chamberlain look statesman-like by comparison.
