All kinds of heroes

In November of last year, Major Troy Gilbert, husband and father of five children, lost his life in Iraq:

In November of 2006, Major Troy Gilbert was killed when the F-16 he was piloting crashed while supporting ground forces in Iraq…

Officials concluded that Gilbert crashed because he was so focused on saving friendly troops from attacking insurgents that he flew too low.

Earlier this month, Al Qaeda in Iraq released a propaganda video showing MAJ Gilbert’s body, and blaming the death and distruction in Iraq not on terrorists who blow up produce markets and school children, but on George W. Bush. The media sharks attempted to exploit the heartache of the Gilbert family by thrusting in on his widow’s grief with requests for “a reaction.”

Be careful what you wish for:

After receiving numerous requests for comment, Ginger Gilbert, Major Gilbert’s wife, made a statement to the press regarding the video. Gilbert says that “when the media chooses to use video of Troy’s plane crash as a catalyst to generate anti-war sentiment, it only serves to degrade the moral integrity my husband possessed and degrades the morale of those serving in Iraq.”

Gilbert says she has not and will not watch the video and asks the media not to “feed into the hate inspired or politically driven motives of terrorists.” She also asks that the media “focus on positive steps and selfless sacrifices made in our great nation.”

Shack.

Good on ya, Mrs. Gilbert. And may God grant you and yours his peace.

She must be one helluva lady to be that squared away in this time of loss. Damn the bad luck for the media, for making the mistake of sticking a mike in front of her face…oops.

Every time I think that the MSM can’t sink lower, they manage to drop down a bit further. Disgusting.

God grant comfort to Mrs. Gilbert., and God rest her husband’s heroic soul. What a dignified and brave statement on her part.

What a great woman she is… and what an excellent role model.

  • She’s a testament to her husband’s commitment to his country – she’s clearly made the same commitment and she’s not afraid to exercise her own muscles to defend it.

Good for her! What a role model she is for her children – they will grow up remembering the sacrifices their dad made for their country and their freedom; they will grow up strong and proud – and free, thanx to their dad and their mom.

Peace to you Mrs. Gilbert, for evermore.

Queen Gorgo: “I am not here to represent Leonidas; his actions speak louder than my words ever could. I am here for all those voices which cannot be heard: mothers, daughters, fathers, sons – three hundred families that bleed for our rights, and for the very principles this room was built upon. We are at war, gentlemen. We must send the entire Spartan army to aid our king in the preservation of not just ourselves, but of our children. Send the army for the preservation of liberty. Send it for justice. Send it for law and order. Send it for reason. But most importantly, send our army for hope – hope that a king and his men have not been wasted to the pages of history – that their courage bonds us together, that we are made stronger by their actions, and that your choices today reflect their bravery. ” –The 300
