Bummer

The Sultana of Snark is hanging up her scalpel. Looks like it might be for good this time. A unique voice goes silent. We are diminished.

Cassie had a way with words that I always admired, and a committed and clever readership. I was much the more frequent reader over there than I was ever a commenter – which is strange, because I value a good conversation so much myself. Now I feel as though I was freeloading.

It’s a strange gig, this blogging trip. It can get to be habit forming, you can find yourself obsessing. It can come to feel like an obligation at times, too. And we all have obligations of our own, don’t we? People in our lives who count on us. At work, at home.

And sometimes you find yourself wondering, what’s it all about? It’s so tempting to pull the plug. Especially when you try to fight the good fight for what you believe in and the world moves on, often slipping further and further away. You can feel as though you’re shouting after the freight train.

People have different motivations for starting, for sticking with it, for letting it go. I hope Cassie finds a way to fill the happy places that this thing of ours used to fill. And everything else in life she needs.

And oh, yeah. I threw a set of keys at her, too.

Just in case.

  • I’m glad you tossed her a set of keys. The blogosphere would be a dark and dreary place without her.

  • She has a few sets of keys, for the Castle and prolly still one for Blackfive. I hope she pops up now and again with a good snark to keep us all on our toes.

  • Lex:

I still do owe you for guest blogging, and I always honor my debts. So please do not hesitate to ask if I can be of service. And thanks for the kind words.

Heh! That new grandbaby may fill the void.

A freeloader? You? Ha! Obviously you have never had a bunch of Marine Wives make you the target of their snark! You are a wise, wise man! he-he!

Gonna’ miss VC. You know how sometimes you just feel at home someplace? VC was like that for me. And that has been a rare feeling in my wayward lifetime.

Ah yes, Mazzola Oil, Visqueen, and Egg Salad. Gonna’ miss the gang. Cassie knew what she was doing when she named the joint Villainous Company! :-o

You know Cassie will need an outlet or her head will explode. I too am hoping she guests here. Hmmmmm, what can you throw out to entice? Have to think on that one! I’m just being the jealous type since I only frequent a handful of blogs and this is one although I just lurk around nowadays. Even if it is full of swabbies and flyguys! Us civilians don’t stand a chance. ;-)

And I STILL stand in awe of your patience! Heh!

  • I too found that political blogging was soul draining, sdo I dumped the angry political blog. I was addicted to the Instalanches (even kept count, almost like a shelf of trophies), had to pay attention to news that wore away at me like carborundum (ooh, new blog name: Carborundum of the Soul), and ended up losing the joy of it. Plus I figured Google Heaven would remember everything I wrote, and I might actually want to be employable in a blue state someday.

The problem with quitting was that I still needed an outlet for writing; when the words start flowing around in the head, they have to come out somewhere and no one in my family wants to hear them. So, started a completely political-content free blog about flying and photography and just about anything I thought might be interesting to write about and haven’t looked back. It no longer feels like an obligation (“Ooh, that silly Pelosi, now I guess I have to have an opinion on it”) and has become more of a creative outlet. And I have yet to get a disagreeable comment – trolls don’t care about RV-6s.

This is a long way of saying that Cassandra need not stop writing if it is the writing itself that she enjoys; her writing ability is such that I’d read her daily trials with collecting soap dishes if she chose to write about it.
