The ride of the valkyries?

Turns out it’s an AC-130 Spectre HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter gunship.

I reckon there are worse ways to go.

Cue Wagner.

She’s a helo gunner, not a Spectre gunner. Her ride is an HH-60 Pave Hawk. She has a much better story that that posted here. She’s with the 66th Rescue Squadron at Nellis.

Check the Flight Deck back on 20 August.

Lex, how can an Airdale forget a face like that?
Your faithful minions have the whole story back there. We check your sixes and our facts.

AF SF flies those birds. Didn’t know they had female aircrewman. She’s too pretty for Viking horns!

  • I know the caption says AC-130…but I’ll bet this months flight pay that she’s sitting in the gunners station on an HH-60…and I have some experience with helicopters.

Oops…someone got there before I did…well, what he said.

Sounds and looks just like something out of a John Ringo novel ;)

Hmm… premature fixed wing strikes… isn’t there prescription medication for that?

To this old civilian editor type, the barrel of that weapon resembles a classic Gatling gun. Would one of you warriors explain why I’m wrong, please. I’m always up for learning something new.
Just got back from the firing range … my first chance to fire our new house gun. Our hands are now so arthritic that we can no longer use our pump shotgun, as we discovered to our dismay last month. We went to a gun store and tried out every type of shotgun and they were all too heavy for me and even my 82 year old husband had trouble. So we bought a handgun, a Taurus ‘The Judge’ revolver, with a 6 1/2″ barrel, which can shoot either .410 shotgun shells or .45 bullets. It’s almost like a shotgun on a pistol frame, and the long barrel gives it more stability and accuracy, we think. Anyway, I did good, my friends. It felt comfortable to fire, and I stayed within the #5 section of the target, both with the bullets and with the shotgun shells. The gun instructor was impressed by the gun’s handling, and said that it felt comfortable to him as well. So if you know any 79 year old ladies who need a house gun for protection, I recommend it.

    My kinda woman!

  • Marianne, you’re exactly right – it is a Gatling gun powered by an electric motor instead of a hand crank. General Electric dusted it off with the Vulcan 20mm canon for aircraft in the ’50′s (still in use) and they just keep finding new ways to use it. They have an awesome sound, although the only movie I’ve ever seen that recorded it right was “Blackhawk Down.”

    Hawt!!

    Nose: ditto.

  • Dillon Precision, the folks who supply reloading equipment to target shooters everywhere, have a spin-off company Dillon Aero that builds these things. They are most impressive.

Lex? You should consider this as a job opportunity. How many people get paid to fly aircraft over Nevada scrub while the gunner runs 10k rounds through a minigun? *And* you get to write it all off as a business expense!
