Good news from the legal front

We were taught as midshipman that that if you were guilty of a crime you’d prefer to be tried in civil court, but that if you were innocent it would be better to be tried by military justice. Looks like the last half is true anyway – Uncle Jimbo writes at Blackfive:

Woo Hoo! While Kev and I were gearing up to talk football, the phone rang. It was the best of news, all charges dropped against MSG Anderson and CPT Staffel for the shooting of a known terrorist in Afghanistan. This was swift justice and sent a clear message about the actions they took. Our troops must know they have the support of their command when they make life and death decisions based on the rules of that same command. Enjoy your weekend BBQs gentlemen you earned them. We will follow up on just how charges of murder came up in the shooting of a terrorist.

That last bit might be easier to say than do, alas. The active duty types who actually know what happened will have to watch their toes when the elephants start to dance. I doubt the press will have the heart to pursue this.

  • Big sigh of relief!

Is anyone else having problems with B5′s page today? I saw that headline, but couldn’t get the post, so thanks for clarifying it, Lex.

Yeah, it’s loading slow. And I think that the columns are off.

Miss Birdlegs … I’m having the same problem. The page comes up but the written copy is concealed by tint bars. It’s a relief to know it’s not just my computer, which can do strange things at times.

Let’s hope they fix it soon.

  • Thanks, Ladies. I had tried my normal Firefox, then switched to IE. MM, I was also thinking harsh thoughts about my computer. ;)

  • Of course the media won’t be digging to find out who started that ugly ball rolling – unless they thought that it ended at the White House. Then they wouldn’t quit. And, since they can’t trumpet that troops are, in fact, programmed killers who just shoot discriminately – they’ve all moved on.
I, however, would like very much to know the who-how-why of it all, and I expect that I’ll never know. And I don’t believe for a second that every thing is ‘back to normal’ for those two men and their families. Feh.
