"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones
"Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra"
"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche
"A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke
“You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”--General Sir Charles Napier

The odds will be with Peavy, but the underdog Rockies sure deserve it with their September burst.
With the game in Colorado, the odds narrow!
Good be worse Lex, you could have been a Mets fan!
Well, if the Padres don’t make it, you sir, are more than welcome to join the I-Boys in their TeePee at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario.
Even though as Naval Aviator, Indian country was not always a good thing, this Indian Country on the South side of Lake Erie is usually pretty friendly except if you are Yankees fan.!
Should be fun AL Series, Boston and Anaheim; Cleveland v. Yankees!
Go Rockies!
(Says the transplanted southerner living in Colorado, after his beloved Braves were eliminated from postseason play.)

It pains me that it has come to this… my two favorite teams playing to eliminate one. As an SDSU Grad, Point Loma HS alumni, and Navy Brat living every where the navy required, my teams were always the Local team and the Padres… and of course who ever was playing the Yankees…
So I will revel in the sheer spectacle of this game… But Living here now, at the base of the Great Uplift, the Rockies are hard not to cheer for on this one.
Care to place a Gunni or two on this one Lex?
Padres? Since when do we let girls teams into MLB post-season play?
Yankees. 26, soon to be 27.
Nose
Rockies all the way Lex! They are…en fuego.
Heh,
I loved hearing the Chargers fans hollering “MARTY! MARTY! MARTY!” I hope they let management know in no unceratain terms what a bunch of maroons inhabit the front office. heck, the great LT ought to be getting a contract soon as the new Kleenes spokesman. You see any of his pressers?
Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of folks.
I also enjoyed watching the Steelers smacked around by the Cardinals
Respects,
Lex,
Speaking of sports, how could you avoid to mention a certain 31-20 result for the good guys, hard on the banks of the Severn.
As a former Padres season ticket holder: ” Go Pad’s”..however those Cubbies will stand in the way again and IF they do go farther the RedSox’ll clobber ‘em.
re Chargers- The Redskins and Raiders didn’t can Norv for nothing…..

That was a great game, wasn’t it Bill? I watched with the NAAA folks at Junior Seau’s place in Mission Valley.
Air Force really had some chances that they couldn’t quite close on. I wish Navy threw the ball just a bit more. You can only go so far on the running game these days in college ball.
BEAT ARMY!
Bad news Nose, they’ll never make it past the Indians. In fact, nobody will.
I see Hoffman giving up three runs in the ninth, and blowing a two run lead.
