Nothing personal, George

It’s just politics:

In September 2002, four members of Congress met in secret for a first look at a unique CIA program designed to wring vital information from reticent terrorism suspects in U.S. custody. For more than an hour, the bipartisan group, which included current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), was given a virtual tour of the CIA’s overseas detention sites and the harsh techniques interrogators had devised to try to make their prisoners talk.

Among the techniques described, said two officials present, was waterboarding, a practice that years later would be condemned as torture by Democrats and some Republicans on Capitol Hill. But on that day, no objections were raised. Instead, at least two lawmakers in the room asked the CIA to push harder, two U.S. officials said.

“The briefer was specifically asked if the methods were tough enough,” said a U.S. official who witnessed the exchange.

Congressional leaders from both parties would later seize on waterboarding as a symbol of the worst excesses of the Bush administration’s counterterrorism effort.

Whatever works.

I note that there are no comments yet to this little “surprising (NOT) story”. Well, I have a comment. Several of them, in fact. But I don’t want to make Lex chide me for my language and uncharitable thoughts during this particular time of year.

Ditto. Since this actually made the Washington Post, I hope that they chocke on it. Please don’t censor me, Lex.

By the way, I read your article on Military.com, as well as the comments. Holy smokes. It looks to me like they have already made their minds up, and don’t want to hear anything that might conflict with their mind set.

Heh! I find it interesting that there are only 3 comments, one being a double post, to this story. Possibly this isn’t the correct web site to post an opinion about traitorous politicians that were informed all along about secret interrogation sites and CIA techniques for supplying info that have possibly saved our countrymen, or anyone else on this planet for that matter, from innialation…
Yeah, they wiped out the tapes to protect the brave men and women that performed this very ugly job in defense of the free world. I would have erased the tapes too rather than hang them out to dry…
The fact that nancy and jay knew about it all the time is just icing on the cake…
When will we, the people, demand a stop to this type of political kabuki? How many others need to die before we stand together?
God Bless the men and women that keep us free!

Just temporary insanity on Pelosi’s part after 9-11 , I reckon. Remember those times? All that Flag flying and patriotic tomes…..morphed into B.D.S. and treason.

What happened to change things..? Oh yeah. “Bush lied”….

Now it’s “cut n’run, we must win at all costs” in ‘08″. Pragmatic politics or treasonous ‘behavior’?

Me & Babs are of a like mind.
