It’s a shame, really

Efforts by the Chinese government to restrain inflationary spending – coupled with record oil prices – have caused the PLA Air Force to institute drastic revisions to the program of the popular air demonstration team known as “The People’s Glorious Flying Tigerfish”

The teams legions of loyal fans remain enthusiastic, however.

I can’t even get my wifes cat to behave, how do you train fish? Kind of cool formation work though.

Huh. I imagine he’ll now work with a couple of solos and merge them into the delta.

Put them in a deep tank so it’s 3-D and he’s really got something.

The PLAAF demo teams don’t fly formations that tight …

    Cheers

    Isn’t the vid Japanese?

Anyway, perfect finger-four manouvering, especially the defensive split. Werner Mölders would be proud to swim with them.

  • Eh, I gave up goldfish shows years ago. People only go to those things hoping to see a fish crash.

Those rare-earth magnets work pretty well. Ultimately though, they’ll be tough for the fishies to digest. Not a lot of nutritional value either.

I think it may be, H-H, I couldn’t puzzle it out. But it seems to me that the voice-over at the end is Mandarin and anyway the Japanese are allies :-)

Roger that, and the Captain called the voice-over correctly as Chinese as well. The writing superimposed on the screen is also in Chinese script, not Japanese. However the JET on the top left corner may indicate that this was originally a Japanese production, which was copied and commented on (then distributed) for Chinese audiences.

How the good Captain came across it, is the interesting part of the puzzle.

    Best regards, Peter W.

I’m just suprised none of the fish hit a P-3.

    ManlyDad -

Stunt fish in a 3-D environment? No problem. (I’ve heard that) 500-750 ml Pyrex(tm) beaker + water + fish + magnetic stirrer = loops, spins, and pirouettes. Not that I would ever do (or have ever done) anything of the sort. What’s that about the Devil and idle hands?

  • So the Chinese took something made somewhere else and re-engineered it to make it their own?

We’d better watch out, they might do that again. Perhaps with hedgehogs.

Honestly, I didn’t think fish swimming in formation was that impressive, until they changed from the diamond to the line abreast and then split for a 2V2 (must have had some leftover gas).

  • So…Enquiring Minds simply must ask this question of present company, i.e., this noble band of august Naval Aviators:

“The People’s Glorious Flying Tigerfish”… better, worse, or equal to The Thunderbirds?

I think I might know the answer. ;)
