Here’s a bit of a slideshow, to let those of you on the outside better understand those of us in uniform. It is a bit aviation centric, but you’ll have to consider the source.
Update: Rats. It worked 4.0 on preview but fails airborne. Try this.

She no works… What am I supposed to do to make it run?
Ditto here, Lex
WSOD.
Tango Uniform, Sir….get the BUll Ensign on the job!
PS: The rest of the blog is toast, too…
Works 4 me. I wasn’t prepared for the finale, though. LOL
I guess I’m one of the first gomers to actually see the slide show…human nature being what it is…it’s always funnier when someone elses ox is being gored…still its’ a shameless snark on the everloving boys in AF blue. Best
That is classic…
It was once said that proir to placing the runway on a new Air Force Base, the most pristine land is layed out for the Golf Course.
Probably still true, I mean you can put a runway just about anywhere… LOL…
Perfect way to end the work day! Thanks
Very funny…..
Cap’n
No joy.
So true…
Too funny. I’m clicking through thinking “where is he headed with this? Some nice shots but…” And then we reach the first tee.
Any truth to the old rumor that the golf course is the first project to be completed when constructing a USAF Base?
So nice pictures.
But so tiny and trapped in a flash
I have heard it said that the first thing the USAF does when they build a new base, is build the golf course. Then they go back to Congress for more money to build the runways.
OK. You got me…..I was sitting in the airport next to a young lady who is currently serving in the USAF while veiwing this slideshow.
……I did try to explain you, really I did. Ended up sayin’ “He’s a really nice guy with a warped sense of humor. Well, that and he’s a Navy Pilot”
Funny…that seemed to make sense to her…….
DNM, there’s a “download file” link on the SlideShare page…
Umg,what did we pay for that Lex?
???
Gotta send this to my Old Man, a retired USAF CMSgt E-9. I used to bust his chops back when I spent alot of time in working with the junior Service while at FT Bragg. I told him from my extensive experience with them, the USAF was the largest paramilitary force on the planet. This will be fun.
*Sigh*…more clucking from the inferior services. I know you get jealous, what with our adequate facilities and everything, and I know it must be tough for you all to bear, but just try to. You can always hope for a joint assignment to an AFB. Now, I am late for an appointment for the supremely nice fitness facility at my nearby AFB, so I must be going. :-p
So true…the first time I flew up to Misawa (AFB) from NAF Atsugi (Japan) we went into the commissary and I found out where all the food for commissaries was being shipped.
Picking on the Air Force – $5.00
Showing the Spartans landing on a moving runway – $50.00
Showing a Rotorhead giving an A-7 a lift – Priceless!
Awful large number of F-14s in those slides. Me, I prefer ‘em, but given Lex’s past commentary, I have to wonder– is Lex getting soft on us?

Thanks for the show! I looked through my log books and saw that at some point in my life (June 18, 1997) I spent 6.1 hours on that P-3. Go Skinny Dragons…
BeachBum
Maybe Pinch hacked in and “replaced” a few slides…
Wow, what’s the matter with all you jealous folks? Tank on the ASVAB?
You forgot the pool!!!
I can just see the glee that must have covered you face when you found this one Lex. Reminds me of the joke I heard @ an Army Commissioning. It went something like this, the Marines show pride with the “OOORAW” & the Army a simular way. When he got to a AF it was “FORE”.
ha-ha-frickin’-HA. Somehow I knew those final slides were coming…past history around here, and all.
As Mike sez in comment 18, I tend to think it’s nothing but jealousy. And I’m sayin’ that from a position of having lived with the Army for a year (in a USAF tenant unit on an Army installation on Turkey’s beautiful Black Sea coast… plus a few TDYs to other Army installations), and numerous visits/stays in Navy transient quarters….which, btw, leave a LOT to be desired when compared to their USAF equivalents. Check that: they’re not equivalent at all, in reality. Only in name.
