"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones
"Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra"
"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche
"A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke
“You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”--General Sir Charles Napier

“Strippers may not be invited or paid to perform at events sponsored by individual students, residential living groups, or cohesive units.”
Clearly, the University plagiarized my Home Peacekeeping Ops Handbook, but I bear them no ill will.
As a Duke NROTC product back from the early 1990s, I try to support my alma mater in any way I can.
During the first Gulf War, when I wore my working blues on campus and got shouted down by protesters conducting “die ins” in front of me and demanding NROTC expulsion from campus, I asked them “Why would you have us thrown off campus…at least our presence here gives you some chance to imbue us with your liberal perspectives.”
Now that Duke University administration is officially sanctioning and sponsoring such worthwhile events, I don’t even think it’s worth staying on campus.
When hearing the news about the sponsored sex show, my wife (a South Carolina alum) coyly asked if I was now ready to officially become a Gamecock fan.
Scowl…
Yeah, well, lacrosse players have big sticks.
Lex … are these equal opportunity strippers? Or doesn’t the university believe in that? All I know is that football on TV has gotten a lot more interesting since the introduction of spandex in football uniforms. Now I don’t care so much that I don’t understand the finer points of the game. It has its visual charms anyway. And every time I point this out, it shocks my husband. Which is worth it.

These are signs that the end is drawing very near. Romans 1:18-32, people.
a lit sparkler up the wazoo?
ooh, that’s gonna leave a mark.
Nice.

Like the question of an earlier post: Do we become what we tolerate? We do indeed.
What-the-hell.
Hmmm, a rather imaginative group. Of course I don’t recommend carrying one’s money in the manner as the one gal did.
Sex workers and social commentary. I’m still trying to wrap my head around that one.
